No, but only because I think it unnecessarily ties up a button to map said function, in a game where there's likely already sprinting and abilities. With analog trigger control and good design, an automatic weapon can be single fired or burst fired pretty reliably as it is.
Rather, I'd like to see fully automatic rifles or machine guns capable of 1-shotting weaker swarm-type enemies in a weak point, head or otherwise, and seeing a lot of said swarm type enemies. Which could allow said swarm-type enemies to be deadlier situational threats if not dealt with properly.
Given that Destiny will be more cooperative-centric, I hope this might be the case for some enemy types. This wouldn't affect automatic weapon behavior against armored targets and other players in PvP, just add an interesting dynamic to the mix where controlled bursts are useful for more than simply pelting Destiny grunts and jackals downrange as it were (forgive the comparison but it's b.net), when you're trying to conserve or don't have higher powered semi-auto.
It's not a realism thing, it's more of a let's make the automatic weapon more versatile and fun in campaign kinda thing. There's certainly the diversity of enemy types there to support it.

agreed that if you want to use an automatic weapon at a long distance then all you have to do is burst fire; while it is cooperative-centric I hope for ample opportunities to play PvP; reconsider firing modes for certain guns or at least having the opportunity, it would be cool. think of using the light rifle, it has multiple firing modes without even having to toggle the the change
