They have definitely plunged in activity since the overhaul.
I have seen the 'We have plans in the works that you don't know about yet...' stuff, but losing key members that won't return because they dislike the changes and that hurt activity across the board.

Sometimes I feel as if Bungie wanted that to happen.

We never sat down and said "Let's do something that will make people leave." At the same time, we are very familiar with the phenomenon of community attrition in the face of change. It's a risk that anyone takes when they try new ideas. We want everyone to find a good reason to come to Bungie.net, even if those reasons become different over time. The worst thing we can imagine for ourselves is to keep doing the same thing forever. If we were willing to do that, we'd be talking about a different game right now.

On a positive note, new communities are springing up all the time here which will hopefully last far into the future!

With the responses I have seen, I would tend to agree.
