Buttface Didact of course. We are given virtually zero backstory on this guy and he gets defeated by being pushed off a friggin ledge.

Don't worry, in H5, it's highly likely we will have developed force powers for a more proper fight. jk

  • Well, he did have a -blam!-ing attached grenade explode on him. He's lucky he survived.

  • To be fair, that tough motherfcker took 2 hits from a Binary Rifle while barely armoured from his wife. A pulse grenade which didn't even explode properly while he was fully armoured in a suit that provides Forerunners a form of immortality can't have done that much damage.

  •
fully armoured in a suit that provides Forerunners a form of immortality can't have done that much damage.
I think you confuse this so called 'immortality'. Yes, Forerunner armors are extremely durable, but the reason they give so called 'immortality' is because they can maintain a Forerunners body and keep it fed with the necessary nutrients for years without the need of food. Add to that an already incredibly long life cycle of over 10.000 years and you can see where this so called 'immortality' comes from.

  • I'm not in any way confused over it, I was just generalising its effect. Didact falls into slipspace, he is in no danger of starving to death or succumbing to bodily defects because of what his armour provides for him.

  • We don't know if his armor was breached. It was, after all, a Pulse Grenade, which is Foreunner and could very likely breach his armor.

  • Halo Waypoint describes the Pulse Grenade's function as:
A field-effect-generating attenuation device used to overload both simple and complex power networks, forcing them temporarily offline.
I very much doubt it breached or majorly compromised the Didact's armour (which is likely one of the more powerful variants anyway since he's the most powerful Promethean), he seems to be pretty much fine after since he's narrating the Epilogue.

  • I'm not saying that the Pulse Grenade killed him. I'm saying that it has the potential to break his armor. I too don't believe he is dead. Also, Waypoint is retarded. They don't even know how to describe their own stuff. They only state that it works against tech, then how come it kills a fully armored Spartan when the field collapses? Yeah, exactly.

  • Gameplay =/= canon, I'd have thought this was obvious. The pulse grenade has to have some tactical use in order for people to use it - same way that Marines without helmets don't all get Boren's Syndrome through exposure to plasma grenades when I throw some in their general direction. Didact's armour looked just fine after the detonation, he is in view long enough to see that he hasn't actually suffered damage. The grenade appears to do what the Waypoint description states at the end of the QTE.

  • Yeah, well 343 is treading too lightly over the aspect of gameplay =/= canon. If it does that, then they should have left it simply as what it's meant to do. Disable tech, shields and AA. Like a power drain. But it doesn't even do that in-game, so why would it do that in a cutscene? How convenient, don't you think?

  • Because cutscenes are canonical while gameplay isn't... For example Romeo gets a nasty, incapacitating chest wound from the blade of a Gravity Hammer which makes him sit out most of the latter act of the campaign whereas in gameplay this obviously wouldn't happen. Then the Pulse Grenade is made pointless since it becomes a single-use Plasma Pistol if they were to do that. Everything is made convenient for the purposes of gameplay, Covenant races do not reach their true height, plasma weapons don't kill in a few shots, shields don't dissipate with a few bursts of an assault rifle, unshielded MJOLNIR, Covenant and Promethean armour don't make bullets bounce off and so on. I just feel like I'm stating the obvious here, the fact that a weapon acts as it does canonically during such an important scene is not surprising at all...

  • It was explained in some of the books but 343 was kinda like F-you about it.
