2 year old shoots his mother

Sauce
Carroll Sheriff Andy Dickson said his department received a call at 11:30 a.m. Sunday to 145 Sand Hill Road, where a woman reportedly had been shot. "Reika Kidd, age 22, was shot in her abdomen was transported by personal vehicle to the emergency room in Milan," Dickson said. "Deputies were dispatched to the scene to secure it and to the emergency room in Milan." Dickson said through his department's investigation, they discovered that Kidd's 2-year-old son found a 9mm Glock handgun in the bedroom and discharged it. "The gun belonged to her signficant other, who sleeps with it under his pillow," Dickson said. "He told us that he usually locks it up in the morning, but didn't on that day." Dickson said in the investigation, officers determined that Kidd, her 2-year-old, a 3-week-old baby and Jamal Gray, her partner, were all sleeping in the same bedroom. The 2-year-old and the baby were not injured in the incident. Kidd was airlifted from Milan hospital to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis. "Mr. Gray told us that she's been in surgery and is in fair condition," Dickson said. Dickson also said his department will speak with the district attorney's office to determine whether any charges will be filed in this case. The Department of Children's Services has also been called to look into the welfare of the children, Dickson said.
I don't want to say anything about gunlaws and America, but people have to be more responsible if you have a gun and a child.

  • -_-.. Common Sense.. If you own a gun and have a child staying with you.. You need to lock it up or place it in a location unknown and unreachable to that child. Like a SAFE! *Facepalm*

  • If there wasn't a gun, would've never happened. Only the gun needs to he removed from the equation, simple. The guy was still an idiot though, a gun around a 2 year old?

This is why we need more guns in the hands of citizens. If the mother had a gun, she could have shot and killed and defended herself from her two year old.

    • A 2 year old capable of engaging and pulling the standard 8lb trigger of a Glock? I would be curious if the baby's hands and the woman's hands are swabbed for residue. Something sounds hinkey.

          • I would hope this doesn't grow into a "ban guns" argument. The solution is to lock the guns somewhere that is easily accessible to the adults in case of emergency, that young children can't get into. I can't believe that a two year-old could take off the safety though. I hope she makes it okay.

          • The least he could have done was put a heavier trigger on it, 20lbs would have been good, or keep it in a night stand.

            • Gun safety laws exist here in the UK, if I bought a gun I would have to prove that I can securely store it in a gun case so that this kind of thing doesn't happen. If you are an American and you oppose safe storage of your gun by law then you're not a responsible gun owner. This kind of thing should not happen but does happen a lot in America.

As for keeping a gun under your pillow, if you lived in or around Memphis and were poor as this family apparently is, you'd want to keep a gun under your pillow too.

                • I'm getting a little sick of this. Yes, people get killed by guns, and it's sad. But it's always going to happen, and it will still happen if the U.S. congress passed gun bans because the guns are already all over the country and it's impossible to put the beast back in its cage, and we're going to react like this every time trying to 'fix' a problem that cannot be 'fixed.'

                    • I another thread, I was talking about how guns are much easier to kill with, so much so that children could use them to kill someone very easily. I didn't expect this!

                      • I'm going to take a totally different approach here, but it sucks to be that kid. Anytime he doesn't get the birthday present he wanted, anytime his mother doesn't pick out food he likes at the store, anytime he has to put up with clothing he absolutely hates, and verbally questions why, he will always get the same response from his mother. "Because you shot me, deal with it."
