I hate how people make it sound like somebody died.
It's sex people, if they consent why should it even matter? Seriously I have worked in a school at 18 and I had to turn down girls older than me in 6th form college.
Even a couple of 16 year olds liked me and 16 is legal in this country and many US states.

It's more of a problem because the teacher is accused of stalking the student.
-
pedo alert
-
So, once you're 16 it's OK to have sex? It's legal, except with someone who's in a 'position of trust' over us. This includes teachers, carers and doctors, who we trust to look after us. It's illegal for them to have sex with under-18s in their care.
Hardly now buzz off you have no clearly have no clue on this subject.
-
To be fair, if it were completely legal to be a pedo, one could still be a pedo. Just saying.
-
You can't be a pedo if the law says your not....
-
Mmmm...nope. Just wouldn't be charged with it, is all.
-
yeah then you are definitely seriously -blam!-ed up in your head, where are you from Paul?
-
Multiple reasons. 1) Its a 31 year old man with a 17 year old 2) The man is in a position of authority in her life. and because of this. He could influence her through threats or other persuasion to "consent" when she really doesn't want to. For example. If he was a dance coach, he could have threatened to cut her from the dance team or something. this is more complicated than just 2 people consenting to have sex
-
Dance teacher was a woman, this is girl on girl.
-
Ok, That doesn't change anything though.
-
I agree. I was just pointing out the fact that this makes it a bit more fantasy worthy.
-
The stalking part is bad
-
Clearly the sex was good enough so the stalking doesn't matter. :P
-
Umm, no. It is not legal to have sex with a 16 year old if you are 18+. Do people still do it? Sure. Do people get proescuted? No because most of the time it's a girl having consensual sex with an older guy, usually college age. This case is weird because it was obviously a consensual relationship.
-
Umm, no. It is not legal to have sex with a 16 year old if you are 18+.
It depends on the state. The age of consent varies state to state. I think there's one state that has it as 15, and the majority 18, but there are quite a few that have it 16 and 17. Other countries have generally lower requirements as well.
-
It is legal to have sex with a 16 year old as long your 16+ and they give consent.
-
No. That doesn't hold shit in court if the parents of either party decide to go nuts, especially if it is coming from the parents of the daughter.
-
Edited by lonepaul2441: 3/31/2013 9:43:14 PMMy god does anybody even know the rules of consent? If you are not in a position of trust even if your over 18 you can have sex with a 16 year old, FACT. 16 is the age of consent, no if's or buts about it.
-
Nope. You can still get nabbed for statutory -blam!-.
-
........ That's if they are underage you know, under the age of consent. If 16 is the age of consent then it's not statutory -blam!-.
-
Federal age of consent is 18. If someone wants to prosecute for having sex with a minor, they can find a way. 12 states in the US have 18 as the age of consent as well. Even in states where the consent is 16, there are situations that arise that would make it illegal.
-
News flash, im BRITISH. Your laws don't apply to me.
-
Edited by Khirna: 3/31/2013 10:29:52 PMThen we'll both agree that the other party is right, since different laws apply. And this is an American article, sooooo, you're an idiot for spouting UK laws.
-
listen -blam!- the law the only point of this is that if you're in your 30s and -blam!- a 17 year old you are a mother -blam!-ing pedophile in my book and the scum of humanity
-
that's cute, run along now the adults are talking.
