Its like watching the marriage between Star Wars and Warhammer - lol.
General Grievous arrives in the opening scene together with Leandros (in full upgrade for the occasion).
Was hopeful that bungie may add some honest characters into the game. They do a spectacular job on the scene art, and then go and reduce it down to a 6 year old mind with the characters. Like the "Space Knight" armor on the front page character ?? Technology to travel across space, yet they dress in heavy armor?
And then to top it off ... all this armor has no effect in game (reach anyone, one shot for shield, one shot for armor & body ... may as well run around naked). Again the 6 year old mind placed within the games hit box technology.
Guess its marketing ... like it says on the back of the game box, "From the makers of Halo and the publishers of Call Of Duty" :(
English
-
oh it's even worse on the back of the game box it says "from the makers of halo and the Company that brought you call of duty" like activison is making cod all by themselve, IW brought us cod, and activision just bought them after the release...
-
read my post how we can assure our destiny
-
How do you know the armour is heavy? How do you know it will be like Reach? The armour could be made of top of the quality, lite weight materials. And Destiny is called Destiny, not Halo Reach.
-
Many are calling you a whinning hating bitch. Others say your speculating too much. What do I say?.... I say wait for E3 and watch the live game play their going to show, and if something of it gets your attention than get the game when it comes out and try it or a demo better yet(if they release one). For now all we got is trailers, screenshots, and concept art which isn't much to speculate on. Just a suggestion bro.
-
How do you know the armor has no effect? Stop making assumptions.
-
they haven't shown any game play man
-
So when bungies own Joe Staten posts a video of game play, and even goes as far to include the following description he has not
shown any game play
. Honestly ... but for your own wet dream read on ... "Tell you of my shared journey with Jones as we traveled to the planet Mars. After meeting in the City's social district, we visited a hangar, where Jones' newly purchased starship awaits. Together we traveled to Mars to explore the ancient remains of a lost human civilization and recover an artifact in Charlemagne's chamber, a bounty commissioned by the Queen of the Reef. After reaching Mars, we ventured to the Dust Palace, a public meeting place, before venturing into a Cabal exclusion zone guarded by a group of heavily armored foes colloquially known as Sandeaters. Outgunned we encounter another player, a Hunter, on her own mission on Mars. They decide to join up. Every time this happens, when you run into another player, a real person, it's amazing ... it just doesn't happen in other shooters." And the video link ... oh, thats right - would love to post it but "they haven't shown any game play man". Shame that, lol, as that pimped out starship looked damm fine.
-
i think oh godlike one makes an excellent point but doesnt understand that the idea behind destiny are that an ancient alien ship called the traveler saves the earth and the gardians are just soldiers who fight to protect the city that they live on by proving to the aliens that this is our land and that becuase their bigger and stronger that we can fight back

Hi, Oh GodlLike One. Not going to try and convince you to like something you don't. Not going to try and discredit your opinion or your gamer ID either. I only want to point out a couple of facts, as you seem to be confused as to why nobody understands the point you are making. And it's a shame to see people getting alienated for having an opinion. It's up to you how you want to interpret them. 1) Bungie likes to be influenced by things they know fans like and they don't mind letting fans know. (That might explain why you can see some similarity in their concept art or website character models). 2) This game is based on a world of fiction. That means that anything goes (including style and technology). Bottom line, it's up to the developers to decide what looks and feels right. 3) No official spokesperson (as yet), has stated that in-game equipment will have no effect or ability. 4) No official spokesperson (as yet), has stated that you will or won't have to wear that particular armor set, no matter which class you choose to play. 5) Customization has been confirmed but with no specific details. 6) If a 6 year old child could design character models such as the one you are referring to, imagine what they could create at an employable age! 7) E3 is set for June 11th-13th, 2013. Details, gameplay and lore will be announced. This may shed some light on the confusion of why in this fictional universe, humanity are capable of space travel but insist on equipping guardians with some armor, based on medieval design. Hope to see you in-game but if not, I hope you find another title that will be up to your expectations. Tac
3) No official spokesperson (as yet), has stated that in-game equipment will have no effect or ability.
Such a well put reply ... don't want to argue. And I wont, other than to admit on this point I was wrong, although surprised that they are allowing power armor (and without increasing the hitbox size). Since posting, bungie have stated that armor ability can be scaled, and that special armor will be available via MT purchase and hinted that some may also be released through game pre-order packs. Still stand by my assessment that "space knights" is a cheap trick - no better/worse that the kung-fu panda characters that Activision also introduced into WOW ... however if this means an instant in-game advantage (and I assume you will not see yourself in the first person) bring on the power armor. As for in-game ... suspect so. Just because I am critical of one element does not make me want to black list the whole game. Put it another way ... also brought both Reach and Halo 4, both of those a disappointment - but no less so than some movies I have paid to see.
-
Thanks for taking the time to read my comment. And also for replying to mine. Don't think there should really be any reason for any of us to argue. You don't seem like the type of person that wants to be negative about the game. And I'm sure you wouldn't take the time to reply to so many comments or even be a part of these forums, if deep down you wanted nothing to do with 'Destiny'. What is it you refer to, when mentioning allowing 'power armor'? Is it the Armor lockdown in Reach or any armor that has a unique ability? Or am I way off altogether? Also, I don't think that you are necessarily wrong. I think that it's a little too soon for any of us to be sure of anything though. After the E3 presentation, we'll be able to speculate a lot more on the details. If that's true, it's a shame. I'm not keen on the idea of players being able to spend real money on armor/weapons/equipment to buy an easy ride through the content. That feels like a form of cheating and I can't see what satisfaction could be gained from it, unless the players buying it are sore losers, braggers/attention seekers or have nothing better to waste money on. It will kill non-vehicular PvP in the game. Arena?!... forget it! Admittedly, I have seen much better models of the Titan in the concept art, than the 'Space Knight' that you're referring to. Fortunately, it's not the only model that Bungie are choosing to use on their website. I happened to notice one that was reminiscent of a Mandalorian set from the Star Wars universe. So with any luck, we'll have a lot of variety in the armor we choose to equip our character(s) with. In regards to WoW and the Pandarian race, I agree with you 100%. I followed the series up to and including Cataclysm and the idea of Kung-Fu pandas becoming a playable race was enough to make me quit and almost be sick in my own mouth. There are a lot of players that welcomed that addition though and so good luck to them. I saw it as a perfect reason to quit the game, which was basically becoming my second job. Back to Destiny... If you start seeing a lot of things that put you off, I wouldn't blame you for giving it a miss. With any luck, we'll all get the details we want from E3. With even better luck, we'll get to experience a beta before release, so we can be sure of making a good investment into a long-haul series. You're spot on about some movies being a disappointment. I wasn't at all impressed by Phantom Menace, Clone Wars, Clash of the Titans and that's only a few of them! And as for Halo... I probably liked ODST the least and that's only because any Halo game not made by Bungie, to me isn't really Halo. But that's only my opinion. Be gentle H4 fans (Flame retardant suit on stand-by). Get back to me on the armor thing though. I'd like to discuss that some more.

Edited by Oh GodLike One: 5/30/2013 1:05:13 PM
What is it you refer to, when mentioning allowing 'power armor'?
Basically your original argument ... that both weapons and armor is to have different levels of effect. My original reference to armor having no effect was based on what bungie had done within reach - basically that armor and hitbox sized were always equal and thet they would maintain this idea ... but yes, obviously wrong, and it sounds like that was way off as the weapon/armor permutations are going to be vast - and more up to the gamer to elect what options will work in different setups. Even the discussion of character speed being able to counter medium/long distance weapons. Dont mind the purchased character changes, will stop the mass trend followers that you get in other games - and even the purchased high end (aka power) weapons/armor ... with so many options a cost will encourage people to extend their attempt to use an upgrade properly before acting on a whim to change.
I think that it's a little too soon for any of us to be sure of anything though. After the E3 presentation, we'll be able to speculate a lot more
Plus there are more than a few false leads being put out ... starting to wonder, given we are still 12 months out ... if they are just testing the market a little more than they have done on past projects. Suspect even E3 will leave yet another round of questions left unanswered ... and hopefully the whole new round on unanswered xbox one questions (like game portability without fee) will not drown out those we have for Activision.

I agree that the headshot hitbox in Halo Reach was definitely a bit large. Too many times I was left thinking... WTF?! :O Balance can be difficult to find in a lot of PvP. I'd like to see something like a 'Sprinter' class with a shotgun-type weapon, have as good a chance as a ranged class on a medium/large map and vice versa (without the need to crawl in bushes/drive like a maniac to get some payback lol). There is much more of an in-depth feel when you have the option to create your own builds for a certain purpose on a battlefield anyway. Hmm, I can see what you're saying about purchasable upgrades and it seems a fair point to make. I still think that it could put some players at a disadvantage though and that would make PvP seem a bit tiresome. If it's possible for skill to beat armor rating in 1 vs 1, then I don't mind the idea so much. For me, that raises the question of assassinations though. What if you are standing there in some of the best gear in the game and some green as grass newbie takes you down in the starter set?! I'm very curious to get some specific answers about this game. Like you say though, we'll get some more info at E3 but it will surely leave a lot of questions still unanswered. I remember feeling the same with the Skyrim demo a couple of years back. This is almost definitely another some final market research. We'll know if that's the case because we'll get near enough what we all want. If it turns out to displease half the gaming community, we'll know how important the fans really aren't. :( Keep hearing a lot of things about Activision. I had no idea how cash orientated they are. I hope Bungie got to lay down the law on a few things before signing a contract. I'm sure they wouldn't want their fans feeling like they've had the biggest financial bending-over. Really don't want this to feel like it's more about the money than the fans. There is too much of that shit these days!
-
Keep hearing a lot of things about Activision. I had no idea how cash orientated they are. I hope Bungie got to lay down the law on a few things before signing a contract.
Lay down the law, well contract states that this law "shall be subject to mutual approval, provided in the event of a deadlock, Activision shall have the tie-breaking vote". How will this work, Activision vote no, bungie vote yes, activision get tie-breaking vote and go no again. Can see a trend developing - lol. As for being cash orientated, another contract quote related to revenue being made from "subscriptions, downloadable content, value-added services and micro-trarrsactions", which I assume is where your concern around purchased weapon/armor has come from. Can see you reasoning ... but in the schema of things you are about to invest in a game split over 4 major title releases, each projected to have at least 5 DLC elements in which the games universe will be expanded (same as map packs, but a little more mandatory if you wanted to continue your exploration). So ... after making this level of investment you are going to cheat yourself out of spending 800 or so microsoft points on a new weapon or armor upgrade?
-
Oh dear. Hope they give the nod to Bungie on everything then. Be a shame to see their full vision held back in anyway. I'd rather Activision delegate in the merchandise and financial side and let the sci-fi masters work their magic. I expected all that DLC as it's the same with the CoD series. So long as there is a reasonable amount of content with each expansion for a modest sum, I can live with that. Stories are told well by Bungie and I wouldn't want to stop reading a book I wanted to finish. So I already know that if this game turns out to be what I hope it will be, I'm going to be continuing to add the chapters. And I'm sure Activision knows that too. The chances will be the same as with any game. If the difficulty requires you to have to have top gear to solo the story, I'll be disappointed. Maybe enough not to not get involved at all. If the micro-transaction upgrades are vanity items, exclusive crafts with little or no improvements or to purchase an in-game currency, I really don't mind it being there. Expansions are fine and I'll be in no rush to finish the game and I'm not good enough to worry about PvP with or without the best gear available for purchase. I can admit, I might be tempted to buy a vanity item but only for comical reasons. Not fussed about trying to look like the baddest mofo in the Seventh Column.

Not to be an antagonist but the Pandaren from WoW were part of the lore and history of Warcraft LONG before the Kung-fu panda series. They were playable in the Warcraft 3 expansion " Frozen Throne" as one of the hero classes and were part of many literary works from blizzard and their novels. I do agree with you however that no game should ever "sell out" to the idea of pure profit. Especially at the expense of playable fairness. I do not however see a problem with using a "likeness" to a popular movie character as a selling point.
-
It's good that a lot of people are ok with the direction that blizzard took. Personally, I had my fill of WoW and am interested to see what their new title is all about. My PC is won't be able to handle it though but it'll still be nice to take a look at. lol And you're right, there are plenty of games/movies/books/art that are all based on the idea of something previously done before. If it creates satisfying entertainment, then that's always a plus.
-
On another note I do agree with you that WoW is no longer entertaining. I lost interest right around lich king when I realized I wasn't excited for the game anymore. I was literally dreading logging on. When I was in highschool I had obsessed over WoW. I was even more excited playing it for the first year. But there is a new spark. I am now 25 and very few games excite me and grab my attention now. I am a part owner of a company and an amateur motorcycle racer. These two things take up almost all of my time. But I have been sacrificing sleep to just learn of Destiny. That old excitement and anticipation is back. And I welcome it with open arms.
-
Good for you, dude! Sounds like you're doing really well for yourself and it's better than busting your balls to get anywhere in a game like that. However, I can totally relate to what you are saying about WoW. The first time I played, it was running around in woods of Teldrassil, baked of my nut and being astonished at this world I had stumbled across. It's too repetitive for my liking though. Took me a while to figure it out. It was as frustrating as it was rewarding and that's too much like real life to me. May aswel have been playing SIMs. I really hope this game scratches that itch for everybody. I wouldn't put my faith in any other company to design the perfect sci-fi shooter for me. Loved Marathon. Loved Halo. And Destiny awaits! E3 will be as much a blessing as it is curse. Because if this game does turn out to be more than what I hope it will be, I won't be able to think about any other game until it comes out. And every spare moment I get to myself, I'll be tryin to find a way to get back and play Destiny. Can see my family thinking "Oh no!. Not again?!" lol
-
Lol my girlfriend is already complaining about the podcasts I listen to and the number of times she catches me on bungie.net. My only response to her is, Facebook. She has never been good at FPS and is an MMO addict. When she finally gave up the battle and started paying attention to Destiny, she got hooked.
-
Haha, you're lucky she likes gaming and is taking a shine to Destiny. My girlfriend has tried a couple of games, likes them but loses interest real quick. On the plus side, she works nights and she likes to sleep a lot in the day and so I don't discourage her. Rest is important :P
-
Very true :)
-
so if i chose that i think that running around in "space knight" armor looks cool i am a six year old grow up how many times do you complain i think your a whiney wimp. if they decide to include the armor i'll wear it just because your a hater of bungie and a troll i bet you don't even buy destiny and instead run back to my little pony "Oh GodLike One" more like oh nooblike one
-
so if i chose that i think
lol ... you sure? How does it look when you chose not to think - expect that happens a lot. Plus why did it take you 34 days to post a reply - LAME.
i bet you don't even buy destiny and instead run back to my little pony
Well that is a bet you will loose ... but guessing a looser like YOU will be well used to that outcome. But do tell us more about this little pony of yours ... do you ride him, do you mount him from the rear?
-
This obviously isn't the game for you. Destiny is going to be a good game and the creators aren't going to listen to your stupid whining. If you don't like the armor styles go back to the 90's and play some Warhammer. See if I care, as long as you stop b****ing about Destiny.
