5th Enemy Race?

So during the GDC event they showed concept art of the original theming/design of the enemies. I noticed that there were 5 enemy races. Maybe I missed something, but I only know of the The VEX, The Fallen, The Cabal, and The Hive. Seems to be in that order left to right of the concept image. What's the fifth race? Are the triangles in the sky a reference to the pyrimidal spaceships they couldn't elaborate on during the panel?

  • The fifth enemy race is Bungie management. I’ve cursed them more than The Hive, etc.

      • I have three theories. (1) They are an evolved race of humans who want to wipe out all lesser beings. (2) They are and intellegent race who want to help us in our battle against a common enemy. [This one is a bit crazy] (3) Kinda like the forerunners they created us but see us as a threat and want to destroy us.

The 5th race is known as the Dorkness. They came to our solar system and proceeded to troll all of our message boards. The resulting jimmy rustling drove the entire human race into a frothy frenzy of homicidal nerd rage, wiping them all out, save for those few who huddled under the protective aura of the Traveler's bong smoke. Now they're coming back to gank our dank, and the Traveler's fresh out of papers... Bummer man...

Perhaps the fifth race (the Glimmer) isn't being revealed because they are the most important. I think there are a few possible scenarios. Either: A) the Glimmer brought the other races into the Sol system, whether indirectly or as a part of an allegiance (like the Covenant). B) the Glimmer appear in later into the story, and either serve as a common enemy (like the Lambent, Locust, Human conflict in Gears of War), or force the different aliens to work together, with or without the humans, to fight them. C) the other races are entering the Sol System to get away from the Glimmer (similar to how humanity was pushed into other systems to get away from the Flood) D) the Glimmer were the mysterious cataclysmic event that nearly wiped humanity out. When the traveler sacrificed itself, they were knocked out, but they are starting to return, and are more powerful than all the other alien races. Perhaps the Glimmer are more powerful than the other races because they can disguise themselves, and take the shape of other lifeforms... It would certainly explain this image, and also explain their name. They may be called the Glimmer because that's the only way to tell them apart from those they are copying, their method of disguise isn't perfect, and the impostors will "glimmer" a bit to give themselves away to the wary-eyed. We really won't know for sure what they are or why they haven't been revealed until they are revealed, but those are my best guesses.

I think it will be other humans, from a far away colony of ours. Kind of like Killzone's Helghast. They sides with the aliens and are going to destroy us. Sometimes we make great heroes, and more often then not...we make sinister villians. Choose your Destiny.

I really think the glimmer are a dark force, like there in an enemy that are feared by all races. But i also don't think the glimmer are the raced that pushed humanity back. Speculation it would be cool if they serve under the race that pushed us back and almost made us instinct, and know of what the traveler is. They are a big empire very formidable, and been scouring to find the traveler that nearly destroyed there forces.

              • I think they might have a race that represents the "Something" that knocked down humanity and tried to stomp us out. Some sort of anti-traveler. I originally thought that would be the space-zombies/hive but maybe not. Maybe it's the pyramid ship people

I get a huge Necron vibe off of them. For anyone who is unfamiliar, the Necrons (from Warhammer 40K) are a race of formerly sentient robot people who are almost indestructible that have lived in tomb worlds for ludicrous amounts of time and recently awoken. Also, they have giant black pyramid ships and crazy advanced technology.

                    • Fifth baddy is going to be a surprise enemy like the flood was in halo CE. It looks like maybe it will involve pyramids which means they may have a connection to the origin of mankind. The black cloud in the concept looks like they may not be corporeal in some forms. It looks like a black cloud and a floating figure with lot up eyes. And that image that has confused us of all alien baddies walking together in a black fog (with uniform colored glowing eyes) appears to be in a black fog. This seriously could be the coolest concept. I love fighting agains multiple enemy fighting styles at once. Fighting flood and cov and fighting cov and promethean at the same time is a blast.

I'm leaning towards that same idea that this enemy is the wise ancient race who knows what the true destiny of the universe is. (At least according to them). I almost don't want to learn anything about them. I remember learning for the first time who the Reapers were in Mass effect/introduction to Sovereign. One of the most amazing experiences for me in a video game. Edit: Does anyone know where to find a high res version of that concept art?

                    • They're probably those that ride the black pyramid spaceships.

                    • I'm pretty sure the 5th race is a very powerful one and probably the nastiest. I still don't think the threat that attacked us and almost made humans extinct is among them though.

                    • Judging by the artwork we've seen so far... the Goauld from Stargate. Seriously, pyramid ships that look like the Tel'Taks... Okay, now seriously. I think they'll be the main threat to the human city in the later portions of the game, maybe being located in the fringes of our solar system, maybe Pluto, or in the dark space between our solar system and the next.

                    • I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that fifth race is probably one of the nastiest. Assuming those giant onyx spaceships are theirs - which it appears to be judging by the triangle silhouettes in the OP art - in the concept art those ships look like they could straight up glass planets. Definitely a force to be reckoned with. Possibly even the race that originally decimated humanity to begin with.
