I don't think that bacteria is getting more resistant. Rather, the already existing and resisting types are becoming more prevalent as other types die off. Still a problem that may result in a plague.

That's not what I've heard. New strains of diseases are being discovered that did NOT previously exist (to our knowledge). These new strains have mutated and are resistant to many antibiotics.
