either dead or evolved far past anything remotely what we are like now.
a thousand years is probably more the scale you are thinking of OP, not a billion.

I don't think that a thousand years would give us enough time to evolve at all. We MIGHT be able to colonize other planets, but I don't think that we'll be super advanced yet. People like to overestimate the power of a short time frame. Just a hundred years ago, people thought that we would be driving flying cars and having personal robots do all of our chores for us, yet we're still a long way off from that idea being integrated into our society.

i'd say technology has advanced as far as we thought it would, just in other areas. a hundred years ago the concept of moving images was pretty novel; now i can watch high definition movies on a 50" super slim TV in 8.1 surround sound if i want and it's a relatively every-day experience.
