U.S. Eighth Army (U.S. Army Korea)

Right so, i figured with all this talk of North Korea and possible war bla bla bla, i would explain what role we would play on the peninsula and what we have there. The chart you see above is what us military type folks or fans for that matter call an OOB. OOB stands for "Order of Battle" it is how a force of any kind is layed out from the Army group level to a company, what this tells you is the entire U.S. force operating in Korea, which consists of the 2nd Infantry division as its main combat force, with the rest of the garrison composed of air defense artillery and intelligence personnel and of course supply personnel. Now the U.S. second infantry division is no joke, they have a proud history in World War 2 and have some serious equipment to bring to bear here! What makes this division extremely unique is its composition of support it has available as an infantry division, with independent armor battalions, cavalry and its air assauilt force which is composed of attack helicopters, and another thing to mention is how spread out these camps are, we aren't sitting in a giant circle base waiting to be shelled. Also lets not forget our carrier battle groups of course, which alone have the fire power to inflict some serious damage, I don't think i have to go into detail on this one, we all know what an Aircraft carrier does. Lastly, i mention our closest Allies in the region, South Korea and Japan who are both willing to fight against NK and have extremely capable militaries to do so, don't expect some Korean Battle of the Bulge where the NK break through and capture South Korea. Now I could go on but you non military type/fans would probably get bored, i just felt it important to outline what the U.S. has over there (God knows half the American population doesn't know we have soldiers over there :P), what it means for us and them (The soldiers). So just remember we have guys in country over their! Also i wouldn't be to worried about a nuclear strike on the US anyway, we know their tech frankly sucks right now and your fear is pretty much unwarranted, even if it did happen NK would be a crater.

  • One other thing you should also point out is our fourteen F22 raptors based in Japan. Oh and all three of North Koreas nuclear test were under six kilotons. Compared to the Americas fifteen kiloton bombs we dropped on Japan 60 some years ago. And they hardly launched a satellite into space. Creating a missile that can carry nuclear weapons is much more complicated.
