I tried watching it but couldn't get through the first season. I lost interest in almost every character story arc.

The 1970's version was incredible. Shinier Cylons with swords FTW.
-
I heard it was much better. More interesting than this new one anyway. Is there as much god talk in the old one?
-
In the original, the Humans speak of the gods of Kobol, but there is no exploration into the theology of the Cylons (or even if they have one). They are just a machine race intent on the genocide of Humanity.
-
Sounds good, I'll have to check it out. Maybe this time I won't be rolling my eyes every five seconds.
-
It's dated. Almost to the point of being campy. But I am seeing it through the eyes of nostalgia of a 6th-9th grader who could doodle an X-Wing and a Colonial Viper with equal accuracy and enjoyment (as well as dreaming of sitting in one).
-
I prefer the new one because it makes you think. I guess people prefer not to think nowadays. They don't like to use their brains and think about philosophy.
-
I can handle campy.
-
Did you ever get the blast cones to be symmetrical? I could never get the three to be quite right.
-
Is there a decent amount of action?
-
I suppose. Most of the action is in space battles. Also if you're at all liberal, some episodes are going to seem really stupid. Friggin' political episodes...
-
The politics and philosophy is one of the highlights of the series which makes it better than the original.

Edited by Durandal: 3/25/2013 5:44:18 PM
Politics and philosophy are great story drivers when two or more counter views are presented in a way that makes it hard for the viewer to decide which is right. This show has a clear-cut "good and evil" thing going on that makes it hard to root for both sides. Especially with the cylons, who's "god told me to" policy is an absolute turnoff. I know the show is meant to represent contemporary times, but when one side is "good" and the other "bad," it's too simplified.
Eh doesn't bother me.
-
Really? I thought the show leaned HEAVILY to the left.
I don't remember what the episode name is, but the one where there's an election between the current president woman and the bad guy prison inmate is pretty far right. The episode opens with jokes between the president and...somebody...about being called fascists, the point being that the audience is suppose to feel sympathy for them. Then later, the inmate, who's mantra is change, is clearly meant to be the bad guy. It was all too ridiculous for me to keep going.

The point was to show Rosalyn as being capable of being evil. That was the whole point, she was the bad guy. That's why Lee was put in such a bind during that episode.
