Wrong. The United States was fighting against Japan as revenge for the attack on Pearl Harbor (cause of USA getting into the war), and to protect it's interests in Europe.

They were. Notice how they were perfectly idle during the first part of the war until they got attacked (don't bring in financial support, money was sure helping with their lack of materials)?

It isn't as if America looked across the pond, said to themselves "Gee, Hitler sure is mean!" and then went off to war. Pearl Harbor drew America into the war in the Pacific and gave the American government the opportunity to go to war in Europe.
