Oh look, a teenager thinks he knows everything about something. What a shock.
Tell us how to end poverty and war, while you're at it. Do hurry, before you turn 20 and forget it all.

Oh look, someone who's just going to be condescending towards someone because of their age and not actually discuss the topic at hand on Bungie.net. What a shock.

And why would I bother to do more? Let us examine your post. The only thing you say to back up your claims is:
I was the whiniest little bitch of a kid up until the age of like 12, was never spanked even once, and am now a perfectly well-functioning, smart, outgoing 17-year-old with no noticeable traces of the kid I used to be.
Now, I've seen you post here enough to know that you are likely smart enough to know how little this bit of info actually supports your assertion. It's one anecdote. By the same token, I am possessed of all those traits, am about a decade your senior (i.e., any latent psychological issues caused by spanking have had longer to manifest), and was spanked (and worse) as a child. My story effectively cancels yours out, as would any other similar story, of which there are surely millions. So, what have you said to refute? Not much at all, unfortunately.

Beating/spanking both can cause mental illness and can create aggressive behavioral issues, or at least make a child more prone to both.
Beating/spanking
No, there's a difference. First study is irrelevant because it clearly fails to make that distinction. Second study (which appears to not fall into the same trap, but it's hard to know for sure, even after going to the Pediatrics issue itself) intrigues me, but I'm disappointed that it only follows up after 2 years.

You dont even have kids...How can you talk about parenting?
-
I can have a stance on gay rights without being gay, yeah?
-
Yep. But it wont be very accurate.

Edited by Verbatim: 3/11/2013 6:26:56 PMBecause corporal punishment is just as complex an issue as is war and poverty, right? It doesn't take a genius to formulate an opinion over a petty issue like this. Give me a -blam!-ing break.
-
Parenting is probably more complex than war and poverty. ;)
-
Except there's a lot more that goes into parenting than corporal punishment. Congratulations on trivializing such a broad topic that covers many smaller topics, such as punishment. Corporal punishment isn't complex. Parenting may be, but not corporal punishment. Do not skew anything I say. Ninja scum.

Edited by VIC: 3/11/2013 9:27:06 PMYou can't tell me what to do. Well you can, but I will not oblige.

Well you obviously have to feed the people. And kill the bad guys. Durh. Man, politics is easy!

Fine suggestions. I have one of my own: I hear the US gov't is having budgetary woes. I propose that they address this with a balanced combination of spending cuts and closures of tax loopholes. Problem: SOLVED. You're welcome, Washington!

I think dey should just make more monies.
