Well to be fair, if it's a small knife, they're not going to overpower a plane full of people. I also imagine that it would be difficult to wield a Pool Cue, Lacrosse Stick, or Golf Club in an enclosed space like a plane to the fullest degree.

9/11 was because of boxcutters.

Did you read any of the sub replies in this thread?

A box cutter worked for terrorists.

Edited by Hylebos: 3/10/2013 9:45:32 PMFor 9/11? Back when the policy was "just let the Hijackers go where they want to go, there's no reason for people to risk getting hurt being the hero?"

Yeah, like I alluded to, the problem back then was with the mindset, it's not that a box cutter allows a person to completely overwhelm the crew.
-
So you're saying people actually have the balls now to stand up to somebody with a weapon? I don't think so.
-
I seem to recall that the people on one of the hijacked planes did just that.
-
Only one. Out of...5 I think? 4 or 5. Anyways, that's a terrible percentage.
-
Again, as you keep ignoring, the mentality back then was fundamentally different than that of the current era. Now we have Air Marshals and people are very much aware of the potential consequences of having their plane get hijacked.
-
Hm, I suppose you have a point. We were just oblivious back then I guess.
-
Exactly. Today, people know that if there's a dude with a knife threatening the safety of a plane, he needs to be taken down immediately. The pilots' cabin is also much more secure.

1 out of 4 and the issue wasn't knives being allowed it was lack of security for the pilots which lead to them being able to easily take over the plane. Since you can't really stop terrorist if nobody can fly the plane.
