You know a game is good when it brings tears to your eyes once or twice. Seriously. It's that emotionally intense. The gameplay is also fantastic and the graphics are beautiful. If I had to pick any glaring flaws out, it's that Lara likes to state the goddamn obvious as she uncovers more of the backstory. I knew for quite a while what was happening, and then Lara outright says it with a tone of realisation. Well done.
Everything else is sublime, though. Best adventure game I've played since Red Dead Redemption. I'm not including Skyrim, as that's an RPG.
Also
Lara really hates guys called Vladimir or Nikolai. And some of the death animations are illogical or inconsistent.
Other than that, gold.

Some of the death animations are brutal.
I didn't think it could get any worse than being crushed under a rockslide or mauled by a wolf, but I was so, so wrong. Like the bit where Lara's being washed down the river, and a metal pole goes right through her head! And she's grasping feebly at the pole with her hands and you're just like THAT SHOULDN'T EVEN BE POSSIBLE but she still does it and IT'S HORRIBLE!
Most games just don't have that sort of incentive not to die.

THAT SHOULDN'T EVEN BE POSSIBLE but she still does it and IT'S HORRIBLE!

Ever hear the story of Phineas Gage? He took a railroad spike to the brain in 1848.
-
Inorite. I was like
her brain has been physically skewered, how is she still moving?
The sound doesn't help. Oh god, I just want to hug her.
-
All muscles. Like when you cut off the head of a Chicken, its muscles will still be moving. Thats where you get the phrase "run like a chicken with its head cut off."
-
Yeah, I really do feel horrible for Lara. Although, it makes the bits where you turn the tides all the more sweeter.
Like when she gets the grenade launcher, and all the baddies are like, "aah, she's got a grenade launcher!" and Lara's like, "yeah, you better run, you BASTARDS!"
-
I thought that was hilarious. And damn cool.

Edited by SonOfTheShire: 3/7/2013 10:57:34 PMYeah, it was definitely one of my favourite parts.
Also, the part right at the end with the dual pistols was awesome.
-
I was like 'Oh,
triggers to pull. I'll do them both at the same time. Wait a minute... no, that's not right. ...Oh, maybe I should aim for Mathias' head. The subtitles say 'death scream', lolz.'
-
Edited by SonOfTheShire: 3/7/2013 11:11:08 PMActually, I really liked the whole run-up to the end.
First when you're fighting your way through the samurai hordes, and then when you're scaling the ice wall and being battered by the winds, and then you finally get to fight the big guy. It was all really awesome.
Although Lara must get pretty cold. I think one of the DLC skins gives her a cozy bomber jacket.
-
It was good. Though I expected, at the end, Lara to say
'Actually, gang, I'm gonna stay behind and discover the mysteries of the island, then maybe see you all in a few years.' Because I found out that the island becomes free-roaming after you complete it. Which is good. Someone said there were no enemies. There are.
Which is also good.
-
There are? That is good. I was worried that I'd only be able to use my new exploding arrows on birds.
-
Salvage: because there used to be a Wal-Mart in Yamatai.
-
Hey, the Solarii may be murderous zealots, but they're not savages.
-
Or falling into the ocean and getting stabbed in the head by rocks.
-
And there's a horrible cloud of blood coming out of her head and she just drifts lifelessly away! Actually, the really horrible one is where the guy strangles her. Because what if he isn't actually strangling her to death? What if he's just strangling her unconscious...?
-
How about zip lining towards a tree and gets impaled by a huge branch.
-
I managed to avoid that one, but I was worry about hitting trees.
-
It looks quite quite lush on the pc, just completed the game myself
-
I am now freaked the hell out at the point where I am at.

Lets just say there are some even more crazy people than sander conhen.
-
Um. Maybe I've crossed paths with them already. I've certainly met some deluded folk, but not Cohen-tier.

They be cannibals in a cave.

Edited by Tartan 118: 3/6/2013 5:17:15 PMIn the geothermal caverns? Or a part I haven't reached yet? Oh wait, yeah, no, I remember. Obviously didn't leave a lasting impression on me. :P
