I know activision said some well worded, beat around the bush, statement about it not being in the predicted 2013 schedule. I personally think this is a legal issue with Microsoft just because Xbox 720 hasn't been announced yet. I think that If they said it would be out in 2013 then many people would understand that it may coincide with the new Xbox release. I think that with so much info coming out that there is a good chance holiday 2013 is possible. Of course halo 4 teaser cane out a year and a half before halo 4...

Started a new topic: Why Destiny is Not Launching in 2013(17 Replies))

1 Replyit didn't say there wouldn't be a "destiny beta" this year....would be nice...
-
6 RepliesWhy would Activision want Call of Duty and Destiny to compete? That would just be really dumb, so they most likely pushed it so there was no chance of competition. I fully expect it to be early 2014 and not 2013.
-
15 RepliesFirst, Activision excluded the game from the 2013 revenue projection at their latest earnings call. Then, predictably, many people speculated as you did above-- that the exemption was doublespeak, or a setup for a surprise, so Activision put this line in the official press release:
Activision reiterated that although Bungie's amazing new world was revealed today, Activision has not included the launch in its 2013 outlook and there should be no speculation or expectation of a different result.
http://rampancy.net/destiny/pr That's not beat around the bush. That's straight up, not included in this year. When was the last time you heard about a game coming out earlier than expected?

3 RepliesThis is from the LA Times. http://documents.latimes.com/bungie-activision-contract It's getting released this year, check page 2, 1st paragraph. Also, it will work on the XBox 360 and 720, check paragraph 2.1(b). Of course they are refusing to acknowledge its release for the XBox this year until AFTER the 720 is announced, and that announcement is expected in June. In June we should get told about the 720, and then more solid release dates for this will be acknowledged.

5 RepliesIt won't be. It would be very irregular of them to release a game within the same year that they announced it. That hasn't been the procedure during this generation of consoles, nor do I remember it being the procedure for earlier generations. In fact, I don't remember Bungie ever doing that. Some people ask "Well if it's not coming out this year, why can we pre-order it so soon?". I don't know about you, but I was able to pre-order Halo 4 quite a while before its release. I'm sure they did that to gauge the interest in the game thus far, and watch it progress as they release more information. Let's not ignore the fact that Activision said that it's not coming out this year, nor should we expect it to. Of course you can argue "Well maybe since the new Xbox hasn't been revealed yet, they have to say that". Looking at it that way, they didn't have to say anything to us. They could have simply kept quiet, and let us speculate, but they didn't. They blatantly told us that it's not coming out in 2013. Yes there is a slim chance that: A. Bungie decided to reveal and release a game in the same year. This of course doesn't leave them much time to even market their new game. Reception so far has been somewhat small outside the Bungie community, why would they jump out and release a game to a market they haven't even established? B. Activision dropped the ball and flat out lied to us. But again, why would they do that as opposed to staying silent? C. The in-game footage we've seen was in beta, meaning it's not complete yet. Perhaps they didn't want to show us the final product, or maybe there isn't a final product. Maybe they decided that the fall of 2013 is enough time to complete the game? I doubt it. If in fact the game isn't complete (which is extremely likely), then they're going to leave themselves enough time to finish it to avoid setting a release date and having to delay it like they had to do with Halo 2. They're not going to repeat that kind of situation. Don't set your expectations of them so high, you'll end up disappointing yourself. Be patient.

Im going with 2013, preorders are up. I would bet its going to be a next gen launch title therefore late this year. Im going to bet its to create a surprise launch to generate even more hype or Activision has left it out their 2013 outlook in case it does indeed get delayed. At no point in Activisions statement does it say anything about a release date not being this year simply it will not be included in their 2013 outlook, many businesses leave things like this out due to possible delays.

1 ReplyI also believe the evidence points towards a 2013 release. The reason for the silence is NDA regulations about the next-gen Microsoft & Sony consoles. Think about it, wouldn't they at least give a quarter or wide range of release dates by now (with a teaser, ViDoc, advertisements, in-store posters, pre-orders)? They cannot release the date because Sony and Microsoft have not released a date; in doing so they would break NDA with those companies. When we get hard dates on consoles, we will get hard dates on Destiny.

Yeah the Halo 4 teaser didn't show any gameplay or give any details unlike all the stuff we know about Destiny already
-
3 RepliesI doubt it will come out in 2013. You just want it to come out in 2013 and are making up evidence to support that claim, IMO.
-
1 Replythe amazon preorder page lists release date as dec 31, 2013..so i'm hopeful it's 2013 as well.
-
But a preorder did not.
