From the brief footage we've seen, the interface remains similar to halo(movement, aiming). I imagine that their gunplay will reflect in a similar fashion, albeit I expect this game to have a greater variety of weapons; I'm personally hoping for something beyond Battlefield, or ArmA, but not as stats heavy as Borderlands. And with this some guns could handle differently than what we would expect from a game like this. What you mentioned on aiming: Works great for tactical games like ArmA, and works great for PC games that aren't as run and gun. I don't expect us to have a 3-aim system for a game that will be faster paced(haloesque). It's been a while since there has been a realistic Sci-Fi game. In fact the two words are slightly contradictory. As far as movement, I don't think we'll see prone. I imagine we'll see a whole lot of speed-play with things like power suits or speed boosts etc. I'm not a fan of it, but most gamers now can't evolve beyond several tactics: sprinting and spraying, and camping. so I'm sure their will be a lot of running. I imagine that there will be standard COF, a higher rate COF for when you're moving, and perhaps a slower COF for crouching. Maybe certain items or abilities will further affect these, but I'm not concerned about that. So far, the levels look fairly similar to Halo. Which personally I find unfortunate. Hopefully it's just that the level designers naturally build structures that are akin to what we've seen personally. From the footage I've seen, their outside structures look familiar, and then I saw a screenshot or two of some kind of space dock or port which also looked just like every space dock/port in all halo games. I think bungie is trying to implement some loading features for longer levels. Where one level kind of just turns into another. We've seen it in their previous games with loading through cutscenes, sometimes "loading..." pops up. It will be implemented with their organic multiplayer. So I think we'll see a lot more of this, so we'll see much larger levels.

  • Do you think a heavily Halo based style of gunplay/gameplay will last Bungie's expected timeline? Section 1: What parts of ArmA or Battlefield were you referencing? what are you hoping for? Section 2: I don't expect a three-tier system, I expect two. Another question that came to mind was the ability for systems to support alternative inputs such as the PS3. What happens when a particular subset of players simply add a mouse and keyboard? I applied this question in a simple test on the DUST514 beta and my performance increased drastically. Clearly this test was about as scientifically sound as Mel Gibson's thought process but I'm going to lurk for moar scholarly input on the subject.

  • Well, so far we've seen a lot of renders, images, and videos of landscapes, but something like 12 seconds of what actually looks like discernible gameplay and it looks a lot like Bungie's previous works, so I'm assuming the controls will feel equally familiar, albeit, updated. But to answer your question, no. Halo gameplay has evolved a lot, but not nearly as much as other franchises. I'm sure by 5 or 6, it will play like call of duty in space. We could have a very lengthy conversation about control style/play style/ interface alone. 1. I'm referencing the sheer amount of weapons available in these games, not even mentioning attachments or variants. MW3 has some 40 odd different weapons Black Ops 2 is in the 50's Halo 4, has just under 30, including grenade types. All of the Halos have had only a couple if not less different weapons for each weapons type. BF3 had more than 60, not including the ton more that were added. ArmA 2 didn't actually have as many weapons as I thought, but there are mods for hundreds more. Anyway, Destiny is going to be a title of the scope and vastness of which we've not seen in a AAA title. With so much game, I am hoping for an equally vast amount of different weapons. The attachment conversation isn't for right now. I mentioned Borderlands, because they had some crappy stats system, which based on the name of an item you could tell what it did. They had billions of different weapons, but if you've beaten borderlands, you know that this isn't as awesome as it sounds. 2. I'm not even sure if I mentioned the three tier aiming system, or you did. But in my opinion for a game to be "realistic" it needs the 3-tier aiming system. Now, Destiny may not need a feature like this at all. But since it's being mentioned, a 3-tier aiming system would be kind of hard on a controller. You'd have to map something like double tap left trigger and then hold/toggle for ADS, and then just single tap hold/toggle for "zoom". Anyway, on console, I'm always disappointed to be stuck with a scope on a rifle and my only options are "no aiming" or "balls-deep zoom", which is a situation in which I would like the three-tier. I didn't mention this before; but since this is an FPS, I hate it when I'm able to use some ability that takes me to third person, especially if it's some sort of cover feature. It's understandable when you add in vehicles. but I think it's kind of cheap otherwise. 3. mouse and keyboard, "apparently" allow for more control/improve performance over their controllered counterparts, just like you said I don't think there's any actual proof yet. However, on the other side of the line, As most new PC games are controller compatible, a lot of really good players are using controllers(our beloved 360 controller) against the classic mouse and keyboard, and doing quite well. Personally, I think there's more ease of access with a controller, and it's more ergonomic, and I think it just adds to immersion, but generally I'm probably more accurate(not necessarily better) with a mouse/keyboard. We'd definitely need confirmation on it, but I think it would be stupid for next-box to not offer support for anything outside of a controller, and I hope that the next generation of consoles would offer several different controller options.
