If enough people start taking and not giving back to society it'll crumble. Vital services collapse, people's quality of life degrades. It affects everyone negatively. It should be everyone's goals to improve their society, not degrade it, which is what you do if you do nothing.

  • Which is why we need to help people who don't contribute, not harass them.

  • We have welfare and other programs to help those type of people, yet many of them choose to abuse and exploit the system rather than get themselves out of their situation and help contribute to the society that attempts to help them.

  • So? That doesn't make them any less human.

  • You're right, it doesn't make them less human. I never said it did. But why try and help people who don't appreciate the help and just continue to not help themselves? It's pointless to help those who have no desire to use that help to better themselves.

  • That's not true. It's never pointless to help others; no one is ever "too far gone".

It is pointless when the help you provide doesn't improve their lives the way you hoped it would. For example: If i gave a homeless man $2,000, then I would expect him to be somewhat better off the next time I see him. But, if I see him still out on the street drunk off his ass with the same tattered clothes, then it was pointless to help him because he did not use the money to help himself in the slightest. And you can be damn sure that I will never give that man money ever again.
