Destiny Multiplayer: Pre-reveal Speculation and Possibilities

Well well, it's been a while since I've made one of these threads. Yep, you guessed it; Dropship's back with another speculation thread. So what am I going to discuss today, just hours before Destiny's grand reveal? Well, it's about multiplayer, in case you missed the title ("Destiny Multiplayer: Pre-reveal Speculation and Possibilities" in case you can't lift your eyes up enough to read it above). A number of comments in articles I've read have mentioned a very social experience, as backed up by many of the leaked posters and pre-order cards we've seen in the past day or so. But what could this all mean? Many believe Desinty could be an MMO, or at least have MMO qualities. Group-based action seems to be a recurring note, and it got me thinking; just how would it work? We all know how your average, Guild Wars-style MMO works. You pick a server, and you can interact with anyone on said server. However, I've never actually played a console-based MMO. I believe there are a few out there, so if you know of any and play them, please feel free to speak up. However, based on my limited knowledge? I'm going to use the popular racing MMO "Test Drive Unlimited" as my foundation. In Test Drive, players would be able to interact with around 40 other people(if memory serves) at a time, as they would be loaded onto a smaller, location-based server which would conenct you with new players if you got too far from the ones you were originally with. If you then found someone you enjoyed driving with, you simply entered an on-the-fly menu, selected their name, and BAM! You're linked to a permament session with them. Other players will come and go, but you two will be stuck with one another until you quit. So how would that work in Destiny? MMO games are a pretty stressful drain on servers and connections. Constantly tracking so many people on one world must be pretty tough. So what if Destiny was a cross between Test Drive and, say Guild Wars? Imagine if you will, that Destiny is actually based across the solar system, as some people are suggesting based on what we've read (that'd be super sweet if that were the case). The last city on Earth is a central hub, if you will. All players across all servers would be able to access the central city at the same time, linked to one, all-access server (based on your actual location in the globe). Imagine all of the UK and EU players galavanting around the city at the same time. Carnage, right? You bet. While in the city, it is up to you to find players (or your friends) to travel with. You meet up over a space-coffe, exchange space-numbers on your space-mobiles, then grab a space-biscuit before heading into space. Or, you know, walking out of the city and exploring Earth. You find this group, lock in a game session, and head out into the open world. This link will keep you and your group connected, while allowing other players to appear and disappear based on their proximity and connection to you. It worked pretty well in Test Drive, so surely it could in Destiny, too? It's just a thought, mind. The entire game (including the "central hub") could be based off of a Test Drive-esque server system, but I'm still a little iffy on the details of console MMOs. I mean, it'd still be hella cool for a World of Warcraft of Guild Wars-style server system. Now, that gets me onto PvP, assuming this IS treated as an MMO-style game. Would we have separate PvP servers for those who don't mind those dang Dead Orbit buffoons stealing all of our job- I mean, gear? Or would it be confined to "localised" game sessions where you simply search for a combat scenario and then take on other groups to see who's got the biggest di...fference in skill gaps. Yes. That. So, BNet, I've rambled long enough. What say you? Only a few hours to go before we find out more, but let's do what we do best right here, right now. Speculation caps on, class. Let's give it our best.
