All the sudden you're in the distant past. You're in the Roman Coliseum, being pushed towards the arena to fight an experienced looking gladiator armed with a large sword and some simple armor. Their is no escape, you must fight and win or die. You are given two options on how you will be armed.
Option 1. A pointy trident, Small Barbed Dagger, a Net, and some shoulder armor.
Option 2. A regular sword, small shield, and a helmet (Your face and neck are exposed).
Which option do you pick before you're thrown in the arena? Why? Do you think you'll survive?

6 Replies in this Sub-ThreadA shield is probably the most effective form of protection from melee attacks. with a regular sword, you're good to go. Not much you can do with a trident and a small dagger.

Right, because I'll be able to use that effectivle while fumbling with my trident. The net is an incredibly unreliable variable. It's useless if you miss, and if you miss, that's it for you really as you're completely left in the open. Even if you do hit him, there is no garauntee that you'll even remotely tangle him. What are you going to do with the trident once he gets close? Attempt to draw your dagger? I doubt it. You'd want to limit the variables to your skill and not to the equipment in this scenario.

Perhaps, but you can keep him at bay with the long reach of the trident while you pull the net back.
