Thread title is purposefully misleading.
It is one Catholic hospital reacting to a lawsuit, and it may be the lawyers forcing the hospital into this position which contradicts their beliefs.

Correct, but if they are facing a lawsuit, their hands may be tied. Allowing this lawsuit to happen may open a slippery slope for the hospital (I'm not sure on this since I have no knowledge of the inner workings).

And I'm saying their hands may be tied by the lawyers. As in, maybe the people who control the hospital (like a hospital board of directors) might be lawyers. The hospital may have been forced into legal counsel, and in the matters of law (I don't know about you) I would defer to the lawyer's judgement. And so while the leaders of the hospital may have disagreed with what the final result was, they may have been forced to that outcome because they may have had no knowledge of law and thus could not hope to protect the hospital from legal landfall. Most people have no knowledge of law, and if able to afford proper counsel, most would hire the proper counsel and then let that counsel dictate what to do and how to do it because it is now in the hands of the legal system and the lawyer is the only one with the proper credentials and experience to navigate the legal system. Like I said the hospital may have been forced to this decision by the lawyers.
