The most perfect experience of all time. Absolutely flawless. By far the most competitive Halo game, way more than CE especially when you take into account the low bullet magnetism, tiny hitboxes, lack of melee lunge, non-broken CQC, lack of auto aim, and extremely useful weapon sandbox. The story had absolutely no plotholes whatsoever, especially when it came to the Scarab in Metropolis as it is absolutely not a plothole that the Covenant would send a giant tank to walk aimlessly towards an ocean. Or in Outskirts when the Covenant don't pursue Chief and attempt to sandwich him between their blockade and the tunnel. It was an extremely natural progression of the universe Halo CE built up, with absolutely necessary additions to the Halo lore such as Brutes. The gameplay in the campaign was infinitely more open ended and sandbox oriented than Halo CE, along with a Legendary mode that was very fair and fun to play. 11/10 game would play again.

Edited by SilentA98: 1/12/2013 2:22:22 AMSup Roach. Hardy har har, like I said to one of the other guys, it wasn't the story of Halo 2 that was good, but the exploarability of the levels. Scarab gun for the win. Yes, I realise the game was horrific as far as melee, and sweep shooting goes (sweeping does not equal bad hitboxes, just bad magnetism) and I never said it was more competitive than CE. CE didn't have live, so for those of us who don't want to have to go and spend money on the stuff it takes to do LAN tournemants didn't have to. Legendary was fun to play (aside from the Jackal Snipers) and much more difficult than CE's, which was ridiculously easy. I could beat CE by my self on legendary when I was 8. Neither games were open, and Halo 2 had infinitely more explorability than CE. I never said it was perfect, nor did I say it was flawless. What I did say, was that it was fun. In fact, what I said was it was more fun than CE, which was easy to play (aside from multiplayer, which was horrific in terms of movement, jumping, OP nades and various other things such as god magnum). From a competitive standpoint, Halo 2 had more options, solid movement and better maps. The weapons were a bit... screwey, and duals were a bad idea (making weapons useless) but the game itself still played better than CE, which was no where near as perfect as you make it out to be. You want plotholes? How could an entire covenant armada not shoot down one ship. There is no good reason MC had any time to make it off the autumn, and yet it happened. EDIT: Also, paragraphs are your friend.

Why hello there A98. I didn't direct any of that to you, rather to the legions of blind Halo 2 fanboys on here. "Neither games were open"- CE's level design and weapon allowed for a great deal of freedom when it came to player choice. Halo 2's only more "explorable" because the maps are so goddamn easy to break. Legendary in CE was easy, but actually rewarding and fun because you could setup and enjoy many of your own battles and play with the actually smart AI that is reactive and not just a reskinned variant of another (i.e. actually has behavioural differences). Halo 2's slapped you in the face over and over again for trying it (Jackal Snipers, Drones, Regret, Rocket Flood, Elevator Rides etc.) I don't agree that it was nearly as fun as CE. "Easy to play"? I'm sorry, but I still haven't accidentally out BR'd anybody without moving the right thumbstick in any Halo game except for Halo 2. OP nades, I'll agree with (but map design made it so grenades had more tactile use- you didn't go spamming grenades everywhere on say Chill Out in fear of blowing yourself up). Movement and jumping? Light years beyond Halo 2 aside from fall damage. God magnum could easily have been beaten by most other weapons in the sandbox (specifically the Plasma Rifle). That's no plothole, that just means Keyes is one skilled pilot. Yes, paragraphs are my friend. <250 words doesn't warrant a paragraph.

Ah, alright. As for level designs, I'll give you that. And while Halo 2's maps were "broken" in a matter of speaking, bungie took that to their advantage and put in a lot of fun stuff to see/do. Things like Scarab Gun, various hidden weapons, rex sword, skulls so far out of map that it's not funny, and a ton of other things. I will say that drones were annoying ( hate those damn things) and the elevator rides wer tiresome (hence why I hated those missions) but the missions that were good, were great. I will admit CE had better maps, AoTCR and Halo for example, were spectacular maps. I've out BR'd tons of people in 4 without touching the right thumbstick, game has horrible auto aim. I wouldn't say the BR had a ton of aim assist, but like I said, magnetism was ridiculous. Sweeping was also ridiculous, but the nades and vehicles were solid, and the maps were splendid. If I could play Halo 2's maps, with Halo CE's sandbox (aside from magnum, and with more weapons, just for funs sake) and Halo 4's movement? I'd be golden. I'd never complain, because that to me would be an almost perfect game. As for jumping, you constantly slid off of things, glided, and it just felt really, really choppy to me (opinion.) I know keyes is a skilled pilot, but think about the technology we're talking about here. But yes, I see what you mean for most of your points.

I guess I can see where you're coming from on the movement parts. "I wouldn't say the BR had a ton of aim assist"- Completely disagree, had by far the most aim assist of any Halo precision weapon. Halo 4's BR is pretty broken, but the game compensates for that by making a weapon that's harder to use (DMR) a superior choice. "The missions that were good, were great." Aside from Quarantine Zone, everything felt like a maze to me compared to the open style of Halo CE. Nades felt pathetically weak to me. Vehicles in campaign were annoying as hell because the weapons didn't do anything against them. It ruined the "open hiking" style of play from the original Halo and forced you to hop into a vehicle each time a remotely open space came up. Still, it doesn't mean that they couldn't have pulled something off, and the Covenant sort of just encountered one of their most important religious artifacts...

... it appears we've come down to opinion over everything. I assume you started with halo CE then? Well, I started with Halo 2, so that would be the more obvious choice for me, as it's the one that made me fall in love with the series. As for the last bit: Truth: "When you first saw Halo, were you blinded by it's majesty?" Arbiter: "Blinded?" Mercy: "Paralyzed, dumbstruck?" Arby: "No." Truth: "And yet the humans managed to get past you, land on the ring, and desecrate it with their filthy footsteps!" Just thought that would be an interesting part to bring up (even if it were from Halo 2)

I started with Halo 2. I couldn't understand what the hype was about (aside from the captivating story). I then went back and played the original, and was given what was, in my opinion, one of the superlative gaming experiences of the decade.
