One little problem, buddy: It wasn't free. Somebody paid for it. Considering the clear expense, and how eager you are to jump away from it, I would say that you probably couldn't afford it, or that you wouldn't want to spend the money on healthcare. That being said, you're really just tossing off your expenses to the next guy.
Now, is that really fair?

Yeah. The government pays it. And what they get out of it is another healthy citizen in their country and an improved quality of life. So yeah, the cost is being passed to that other guy, the other guy being the government. It's certainly fair, a government is meant to take care of the people its been given responsibility for.

Edited by Seggi: 1/13/2013 11:02:31 AMIt's not really all that different from health insurance: your health care is paid for, in part, by others who also pay for health insurance, and when they get sick or injured, their health care will be paid that way, too. The main difference here is that the government makes those who can afford it pay more for the health insurance, and those who can't afford it pay less, as is most practical and beneficial.
-
That's not practical. That makes the rich pay more than what they should, and the poor pay near-nothing while receiving equal coverage as the rich.
-
That's exactly what makes it practical: people who can't afford it as well don't have to pay as much for it.

-
Except, I'm also paying for other people who aren't even paying for themselves. I could use that spare cash to buy things I feel I need. After all, it's my money.
-
Edited by Cultmeister: 1/13/2013 10:36:16 PMbut it isn't spare cash; you never even see the money. it isn't yours because it's taken before it ever gets to your wallet. are you against all the other taxes you have to pay on the grounds that you could use that spare cash for things you need? because you'd have to be if you want a valid position.
-
Are you kidding me? Do you have the gall to tell me that the money I earned isn't mine, simply because the government is taking it?
-
Why do you pay taxes, then? After all, it's your money.
