Not really, the iPad has been on the market for much longer so it'll be easier to sell.

That's actually completely wrong. A new product from a large company is supposed to have a high demand, low supply; thus the surface should be better. However, it's not - this is because of the iPad's superiority.

The iPad and the Surface are both good in their own right. I'd say Surface is closer to being a laptop than the iPad is.

Clearly it's not, because the iPad is selling better & is considered more powerful in all ways.

Perspective is key. Not only is Apple a high end only company but their iPad as been on the market for years. Compare that with the months that the Surface has been on sale coupled with the budget oriented connotations of Microsoft ans it's easy to see why someone would steal an iPad before a Surface. Actual comparisons of the two devices are fairly irrelevant.
