Frequency. I think we just need a lot more participation. Furthermore, we could a good number of people to help organize these things (as one person is too few). I have ideas and some time, so if I can help, please let me know.

Absolutely, it would be great to have you as an event organiser. The carnage has been a little quiet these past few months, and a little fresh enthusiasm could work wonders.

Prometheus is correct. What we need is people on the site saying "Hey will you be showing up to this week's carnage?" If we have one every weekend then it will become well known a popular. Meaning we can have bigger and better events. I also think that we should have full on tournaments, for money, which i can supply if need be, but that would draw interest.

I wouldn't suggest cash, but possibly Microsoft Points (or the PSN equivalent). I have this Halo Conquest idea I always wanted to carry out. It's like Risk, but with Halo maps.
-
could be good. And cash is always more of an incentive, you can do a lot more with $60 then 60 dollars worth of MSP
-
We don't need cash as an incentive. The fun is in the game and in the company. We're a community, and I would never encourage we go down such a route.
-
Alright, but you do agree that we should have a tournament of sorts? I'm thinking a 2v2 march madness kind of thing. Not sure what game though.

Edited by Tom T: 1/11/2013 4:26:08 PMI've long thought a tournament would be fun. But on cash... We're gamers. We're obsessed with silly pointless things like achievements and bragging rights. I just do not think cash is something we should touch, and would rather you all kept your wallets safe so you can survive the next steam sale. I'm not necessarily against prizes on special occasions, but let's be a bit more inventive.

As far as cash goes I think it should remain internal. For example I regularly renewed a lease for a private server on Battlefield 3 specifically for community use, I never asked (an never will ask) for money. It was done as a service to the community for a measly $.75 a day. Also I have recently uncovered a lot of free time. If help is short I am glad to donate my time for the cause, you only need ask.
-
That reminds me, we definitely need to take advantage of your BF3 server before the February cut-off. Thank you again for offering your resources. You are another person who I think would be excellent in an organiser role, and I would love to have you on board.
-
Excellent. I'm happy to oblige. I'll make sure to keep a watchful I on the community carnage. But of course if I am needed immediately I'm just a PM away.
-
Consider it official. Why not begin planning it in the group yourself ;)
-
Of course just give a me a sec. I have access to our group on Bungie.old and I'm porting some articles
-
Agreed. Besides, people get really weird whenever cash is involved.
-
If we could get it bungie sponsored maybe we could have Swag to give to the victors. Or maybe bragging rights for being best on the site is all we need. Who knows, but we should start seriously discussing a tournament type thing.
-
Hmmm, not a bad idea. Nothing motivates drama on this site better than a T-shirt.
-
Yeah. We'll need to talk to DeeJ and see about that. In the meantime we should talk about how it should be set up. Then sometime down the road make a thread to develop interest and see who would want in. Personally a March Madness bracket would be the best set up, but whether it should be 2v2, 4v4, or 1v1 is up for discussion.

The problem with cash: 1.) technically it is illegal to send through the mail. Sure, you could do paypal, but that requires members to have a debit account. Would also start getting tedious with international participants. 2.) If you have a team-based event, that's going to be a lot of cash. Points would just be quick and easy over the internet.

I wouldn't send dosh through the mail, but you can always get a Vanillacard, put money on it, and send the info. That works just fine. And it won't be any cheaper if we do team based events with msp.
