Whenever i insert a DVD into my computer it says there is a disc there but wont play, it will play in the xbox and my DVD player but not on PC. I have played it on this computer before and i had no problems, wont work now for CDs or DVDs. Says there is no disc in the drive when there is, help?
I am using vista.
If it worked before, does not work now, and works for other players, then it probably means your CD drive is dead. Otherwise, the driver that recognizes that CD drive has some how become corrupted. Try looking at the CD drive's model number, and use Google to find the appropriate driver. If that does not work, then it may be time to buy a new one.
Well it says there is a disc in but whenever i double click on it or rightclick and select install or run or explore it just says there is no disc in the drive and it ejects it. I will look into what you said right now.
I work at a computer shop and just so happen to see this issue not too long ago. A simple swap of CD drives cured the problem immediately. Another reason (though not nearly as likely) could be that your power supply is starting to go out, but I highly doubt it. You would see a lot worse things happening to your computer if that were the issue.
So shall i go out and buy a new CD drive?
When i go to properties, hardware and click on the disk drive it says
