Why are the Sith evil? (Debate!)

For having red lightsabers? For wearing black robes? They're allowed to feel passion and attachement? If anything, the Jedi are evil for denying themselves those things. And Darth Plageuis for instance, he wanted to preserve life. What's so evil about that? [Edited on 06.07.2012 8:29 PM PDT]

 • Same goes for the jedi though. They are not above the sith in anyway once so ever. If anything the radical views they have are just as bad.
Posted by: Heven644 Absolute power corrupts absolutely...
• Star Wars is kind of stupid in that sense; it makes it seem like "bad guys" are just people that love dangling around their saber-peens and shooting lightening out of their hands. They have no story or humanity behind them. I suppose that Anakin was closer in that sense (because he became dark for love), but even there he did things that didn't have to be done. Especially looking back at the Anakin situation, I think it's a little stupid how he essentially panicked when he found out that Padme might die. He was obviously fearful of telling the Jedi, but they're loving and understanding. He may have been removed from the order (worst case), but he still would have had counciling and help.

 • They let their emotions drive them to do the extreme. The Jedi try to control their emotions to prevent doing things without thinking, such as killing someone out of anger. With great power, comes great responsibility Off topic, but related to Star Wars... Jedi are not allowed to have children. What about the Sith?

 •
Posted by: oaklandp8ntbalr Don't Star Wars fans always bash episodes 1-3? So then why do they use examples from those episodes, like the "enslavement" of the clone troopers?
Yeah I've noticed that too. I prefer the originals overall but don't hate on the prequels. But the creation of the clone army in episode 2 and expanded in 3 is damn good by the original trilogy's standards and filled with potential. Heck of a lot better than Ewoks.

 • The idea is that the self serving nature of the Sith is what drives them to evil acts. You need to remember that Star Wars was developed when people were less ambiguous about morals.

 • I think you misplayed Kotor 1 + 2, it explains it in a lot of depth. Go back and play it, and talk to Kreia throughout the game, she gives you stories and stuff if you have the time/patience and you actually like star wars it's worth a listen.

 • Because they are for domination of the entire galaxy, and have no qualms with killing innocent people to get where they are.

 • Both are equally evil Both are equally good Think of yin yang, you can't have dark without light, you can't have light without dark. Both have the same ultimate motive but different means Think of it like this both have a dirty coin, both try to clean it, the sith try to remove the grime through force (scraping, scratching etc (the real kind ie. Brute force) the Jedi try to cleanse it (soft cleaners, blow dry etc)

 • They are evil because they use there powers and emotions, and abilities, to hurt innocent people for personal gain, whatever that be. They don't care about the sacredness of human life. And they don't care who they hurt, as long as it benefits them. It's quite obvious they are evil. Watch the films, read the books, plenty of examples to show that they are evil. Heck when Anakin became a sith he slaughtered children. I really dislike it when some people try to portray the sith in a better light. It's like they are trying to whitewash their sins. Listen, they were created to be evil, like the jedi were created for good. [Edited on 06.08.2012 12:18 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: SamH
Posted by: Bamein They're Extremely selfish...
Not really. Some of them a bad like Darth Sidious though
Their entire society is founded on the principle of killing your superior to gain rank and power. Sith are wholly selfish. Many delude themselves into thinking they're working for 'the greater good', but name a time in fiction that that hasn't gone horribly wrong. [Edited on 06.08.2012 12:01 AM PDT]

"Balance to the force" doesn't mean equal numbers of Jedi and Sith, it means a spiritual balance. The Jedi attempt to use the Force to uphold justice and remain neutral except in times of dire need; they were never meant to be galactic police. The Sith corrupt the Force, and bring it out of balance. It may sound harsh that the Jedi try to purge emotion, particularly negative ones, from their lifestyle, but keep in mind it's a wholly voluntary role that is detached from the rest of society. They aren't forcing anyone to join, and they won't stop anyone from leaving.

Back to my point, the Dark Jedi can be 'good', but due the low number of them, it's not likely. However, Sith Lords like Revan and Plagius weren't all bad. Exar Kun had ideals too.

 • True Sith are simply evil beings. The 'Sith' or Dark Jedi can be peaceful, but the inner conflict makes it more likely that they are evil. Combine this with the fact that there are only two, and therefor the apprentice is chosen very carefully, you'll get evil as result. Everything else is merely a matter of point of view. Why the rebel alliance? Was the Empire that bad?
