The Dark Knight Trilogy showed that Superhero movies can work in a dark setting, and I'm hoping Man of Steel takes the same direction.
P.S Avengers I found to be overrated.

I agree. But I don' think it is just the darkness that makes it work, I think it is the questions the film asks, and how seriously it takes it's audience. Luckily we already have good signs from The Man of Steel trailer with issues such as responsibility to save others, and not giving clear and obvious answers. I hope the film explores this in greater detail, along with other similar topics.
