I know it sounds cliche like one of those discovery or spike tv shows, but I just want to know what everyone thinks; who wins, a spartan 2 or a grizzly bear? Whether or not the spartan wears armor I think goes into the analysis.

"distracted"? If a bear is too much (I'm not saying it is) what WOULD be a better match? I guess it's important to keep in mind that spartans seem quite capable of taking down hunters, which I think are beasts of larger size and strength than a bear, although they usually do it with a weapon and armor on.
Posted by: Minai99 At first thought, you'd want to think so. But depending on the circumstances, might it be possible for the spartan to be overpowered?
if the spartan was sleeping or distracted maybe but in a 1v1 bear will lose
A spartan with no armor would be no match for a bear. Humans have fragile skin and bones. A bear has sharp claws and teeth, thick hides, dense bones and immense size and strength. The bears teeth and claws would tear through your flesh like a hot knife through butter. And if the bear was aggressive, like say a mother grizzly protecting her cubs, she would fight to her last breath to save them. If a bear is charging you with the intent to kill you, consider yourself dead. They are very fast and you wont get away. They can run faster than you, climb trees and swim.
This would definitely make for a tough opponent. But could a spartan do it?
-
Unfortunately, I don't have, or know where to get, the stats to literally figure out the force required for such a feat. But the question would then be if it's even possible for the spartan to get him/her self in a position to do so.
-
Posted by: Minai99 I'd think that would require a lot of force.
Perfect for a Spartan 2

Spartan 2 could snap a bear's neck like a stick
Posted by: Chaos Isaac The time I see a Grizzly flip a tank by itself with just it's hands/paws. I might give it credit for a fistfight with a Spartan, armored or not. But until then. Spartan. Wins. Hands down.
That is for gameplay reasons. Just like in ODST where, it was absolutely ridiculous for a man to rip off a mounted turret or flip a warthog or scorpion over. Realism takes a back seat to fun. [Edited on 02.01.2011 7:19 PM PST]

Correction, they can lift closer to 1800 lbs with armor on.
-
no spiders
-
Unfortunately, I think (I haven't done the physics out on the torque necessary, but I think it's fairly clear considering the tank is 60-something tons)there is something of a discrepancy between the ability of the chief to flip a tank in the game (which is most likely for smoothness of gameplay) vs in-book incidents which indicate spartans can lift about half a ton with armor on. If you look at the link I posted, a bear displays comparable strength.

http://www.tvlesson.com/video/18847_measuring-the-strength-of-a-grizzly-bear.html I'm not saying that I spartan couldn't ultimately take down a bear. I'm just saying the evidence needs to be weighed.

spartans see all threats as grunts, they make u wanna snap ther neck

Tho, I'm pretty sure a spartan II has at least the strength of a grizzly, considering the fact that chief, in his teen years, unintentionally killed 3 ODSTs, easily. With his bear fists. -
spartans have at least 3 times the reflex speed of a regular human. Coupled with superhuman strength, no problem. No need for a suit.
-
but the bear wouldn't be able to see it. SPARTANs boast a 300+ percent reaction time. The bear would literally be moving in slow motion.
-
As per the poster above, exactly why the matter could be complicated.
-
If it was Bear Grylls, the spartan would to wait for him to finish eating a grunt or moa.
-
My main issue is that in hand to hand, I think a spartan might be overpowered by a bear, at least if it comes down to shear strength. I think a spartan can lift something like a thousand pounds, moves fast, and has training, but bears are hulks!
Posted by: Austin lax16 A spartan is a genetically enhanced super soldier. I think it's more than capable of dealing with a grizzly bear in hand to hand combat.
With armor on, for sure. Without, not a chance. You really must have no idea the power a grizzly bear possesses do you? On top of it having razor sharp teeth and claws, it can kill a fragile human with one swipe of it's paw. You can't get away either. They can climb, run and swim. lol @ hand to hand combat with a grizzly bear.
Posted by: CJFPheonix Ready for a random fact? The grizzly's blood flows so slowly that if you were to shoot one in the head, it still has about a minute to maul you before its brain realizes it's dead.
Bear wins. Flawless victory. Also, hitting a sharks eyes is pointless as when they bite their eyes move further down their head. Go for the gills, even though you're under water and will probably die there. I'd say spartan because the bear would be moving in slow motion (to the spartan)
-
If an Angry Russian in Street Fighter can beat a bear, a Spartan II could beat one hands down. With, or without armor.
-
In armor? it's no contest, they could probably literally rip the bear apart. Without Armor the Spartan would probably still win unless he got very unlucky. [Edited on 02.01.2011 6:45 PM PST]
