If your new game flops, I hope you’ll add more people to the destiny team because no one even cared about marathon in the first place. The pre-order numbers are stale. The people want destiny stuff so that’s what needs to happen.

I won’t be playing Marathon myself but not because I think it’s going to be a bad game but because I simply don’t like the gameplay look of extractions shooters… Go in, collect loot, extract, go back in to get more loot to just extract again? I don’t know… that doesn’t sounds very fun in my opinion.

Edited by jhermannITJ: 2/13/2026 7:04:11 PMWhat's gonna happen is going to happen. Do I like stewing in doubt? Of course not. Marathon is a really good game though. And if the benefits for ranked are worth it, there's more space for casual players than most realize. Because it divides those pools per the buy-in reqs.

pre-order numbers for marathon were good for the week pre-orders came out so lmfao, the game will not flop, and even if it flops sony commands ( something you already see ) will not get better

It will flop. No replay value from what I’ve seen. Same boring extractions over and over. It’s like playing the new renegades expansion with invasions.
-
I'm not sure how they will manage two live service games, because when it was just one, they weren't exactly knocking it out of the ball park I'm assuming Marathon was an order from the top down, it would explain a lot of what is happening

2 RepliesI can’t wait for Marathon forums to start posting.

Bungie may have done too much damage to destiny with edge of fate and the portal. I don't think they can save the game at this point. They might be able to keep the game going but it will never be what it use to be. If marathon is a flop they will probably get put on other games or just let go. They need something huge to save this game and I dont think the know how to do that anymore.

3 RepliesIf marathon flops I can’t see bungie lasting long realistically . No matter what they do at this point I can’t see a way to revive destiny. I really think they have driven away so many players with bad choices and zero communication time and time again it’s passed the point of fixing . As someone who’s been around since the very start even I find it pretty pointless signing in more than a couple of times a week now. Being a 2 IP studio would be good business sense if they had the resources to back it up, it seems very clear they don’t .

Idc about Marathon, I don't like extraction shooters. But I still wish Bungie to get at least a modicum of success with it, so they get better fundings for their studio. What I fear, though, is that if Marathon succeeds well, then I can see them putting way more effort into that game over Destiny 2, but it's Marathon fails. I could see them tanking as a studio which would also affect Destiny. We'll see soon enough, I guess.

I totally agree, marathon is a pvp based game and what makes destiny 2 so great are all the campaigns, the whole lore and the variety of weapons, armour, and builds you could create. The problem with it, is that bungie releases a big expansion and thats practically it, once people finish it what happens next? Instead of fixing onto a new game let's keep adding onto destiny, as I said marathon is a pvp based game, why cant we make pvp in destiny larger if the community wants it, the game has so much of everything so let's use it, we dont necessarily have to keep adding new things.

Someone else who doesn't understand the situation Bungie and Destiny is in,sigh Marathon debuted at #4 in pre-order sales on Steam, people are more interested Marathon than Destiny at this point And if Marathon fails, Bungie and D2 will be over also,Sony will cut there losses, there will be no D2, No Marathon -
If Marathon flops, Bungie as we know it is finished.
-
Destiny 2 gets support based on its performance from a profit and playerbase numbers hence why its development scale got downscaled. If marathon fails it makes no sense to put more into destiny 2 especially with no real plan for it to show. More likely marathon failing would cause layoffs and maybe a studio closure.
-
If the new game flops the studio disappears, there is no more D2 team
-
I don’t know how representative pre-order numbers are with a free open beta coming. I’d suspect a lot of people will wait for the beta before committing.
