FOMO is a player problem people create for themselves.
You don't need to own or do everything in the game.
Play the things you want to play.

It is a player problem but it is created by the developer. It is as simple as ignoring their insidious design and just playing what you want when you want. Although for a lot of people it’s not that easy.
-
It's not. The problem only arises due to the players (false) expectation that they can do and have everything. That is not created by the dev. That is manifested, 100%, by the player. Sure, you can blame the Devs for making too many things, I guess? But in reality, they're making abunch of things to please a bunch of different groups of people, and you have certain individuals who get mad when they don't belong to EVERY one of those groups. It's not "insidious design" to make parts of your game that only benefit a small portion of the fanbase, or that only are around for a certain time, especially when it's purely cosmetic in nature, as mostly all of the FOMO stuff usually is, aside from things like holiday event weapons if you wanna count those as FOMO items.
-
I also feel the need to say I don’t blame Bungie for how many items there are in the game to earn. I actually praise them for it because the more loot there is the better it makes the game. I only wish we could get the loot whenever we want and all game modes were available to play all the time.
-
I agree to disagree. I do not feel that every player is entitled to every item in the game. That would be ludicrous because there is a wide range of skill from player to player. Also, certain players only want to play certain game modes which limits what items they can earn and that is to be expected. You brought up cosmetic items as well which I can agree aren’t a big deal because they aren’t game changing. But on the flip side their are people who care more about Destiny fashion then anything else who experience fomo there. What I despise are limited time events with loot that is sometimes “meta” that has such a narrow window of obtaining. You mentioned the holiday events for instance and more recently Heavy Metal for example. Also the rotating raids, dungeons, nightfalls, exotic missions with rotating loot. I feel that all of those things should be available to the player base all the time. It is way too much to keep track of when there is a certain item or items you’re going after. Then there’s sunsetting and losing content that we paid for but that’s a whole other conversation.
-
What loot from the events is or has been meta? Like actual meta, not just popular while the event was live.
-
Mistral lift from the dawning was the first linear fusion rifle to roll with envious arsenal and bait and switch. I don’t know how good the gryphon is from heavy arsenal but that could potentially be game breaking. Glacioclasm was meta back in the day. Honestly there have been so many different meta weapons it’s hard to remember a lot.
-
Given that you're not going to be able to pull out the Gryphon in most combat spaces anyways, it's not going to be gamebreaking lol. Maybe if they ever bring back Scourge, it'll be nuts on the last encounter, but otherwise, it's just there. Idk, listing two guns, one of which being glacioclasm which really only had res burst going for it and that could be found on other FR's, and then saying there were so many it's hard to remember a lot....doesn't really add up lol. People worry too much about FOMO. Especially when nothing you listed was ever even remotely necessary to do anything in the game.
😂
Man you didn’t need to change your post. For example. I buy Elden Ring. It’s a more challenging game. Just because I bought it doesn’t mean I am guaranteed to beat it. Doesn’t mean I deserve to get every item in the game. Defeat every boss. Buying something like a video game doesn’t mean you deserve to get everything

I saw a post in here the other day and the OP said “get the rewards I payed for”. So you go buy a bow and arrow setup and you just deserve the 12 point buck because you payed money? You sir/madam pay for the ability to work to get the rewards. That is all.
