That’s why I always wonder why people think there should be a D3.
Bungie is so creatively bankrupt that they can barely make interesting stuff in D2 and people want them to make a whole new game with new weapons, new perks etc?

I don’t think that an destiny three won’t save an sinking playerbase it’s another band aid that will end up falling off it’s like painting the same wall so many times before flaking off and end up with more mess than solving it

Its because D2 is in a locked position that really can't be fixed without starting over. Powercreep has gotten out of control Weapon bloat is cranked to 11 There are longstanding problems with the code they can't be fixed on a live game. This is one of the primary reasons for changes to weapons and armor taking forever with very little significant changes when they do happen. It's why artifice armor got deleted by accident when they added in armor set perks. The game was only meant to be a 3 or 4 year game at most then be reset like D2 did to D1. The game engine is being stretched thin and needs to be fixed up but it can't be done unless it's started from scratch. Classes and subclasses need to be reset and given their own identity again. The -blam!- of the subclasses classes over the years has ruined alot of identity and prismatic is overshadowing pretty much all of it. They've offed so many characters and there are only a couple left with any story significance. Not to mention most NPCs are either hated by played or so insignificant that players dont care.A heavy time jump with all new NPCs is needed. The list goes on but basically they are in a position where bungie can't make the necessary changes without starting fresh.

I understand why people feel that we need a D3. I don’t understand why people think Bungie could actually pull it off.

Yeah without a heavy reshuffling of the studio i don't know if they could either. They are riddled with problem devs. They need a serious overhaul of the employees. Gut everybody that pushes personal or political ideology over player enjoyment. Gut the writers because let's be honest they haven't written a decent story since WQ and even then the ending got botched. Gut the part of the sandbox team that keeps power creeping seasonal weapons to be better than dungeon or raid gear. There no reason some random seasonal trash should outshine high end raid gear. The list goes on but bungie is infested from the ground up so I doubt they could make the necessary cuts to grow properly. Instead they'll keep the toxic positive devs and ideologues and let them kill destiny and marathon

The assumption is that d3 wouldn't suck. And even if it wasn't great it'd be a massive sandbox, narrative and loot refresh.

D2 launch was a massive sandbox downgrade and took like 2 years to match D1. It'd take like 6 to match D2 if they did a D3.

Yes there would be a sandbox downgrade. People are going to have the same complaint with gta6 when they don't have their rocket bike, submarine and ac130 immediately purchasable again or when they don't have their 20 garages full of cars. Or if the MC club is missing. But that's the point. It's meant to start the sandbox over so that the game can have a fresh start. Its why path of exile releases leagues(seasons) that are in a completely isolated vaccum from the standard game. You have to start over from scratch every league release, but it hard resets the economy and loot pool and allows significant changes in its own ecosystem Now going from D1 to 2 was way overkill in the sandbox downgrade but that was because they had a huge change in design philosophy from 1 to 2 that was a huge mistake but was remedied with the forsaken.
