I remember when the raids and dungeons were fun and not a contest to see how long it takes to get world's first completion. Bungie is catering to a few hundred people, and yet they are then surprised when people leave the game by the thousands. If Bungie keeps catering to the few, then that's all that will be left (As seen by player counts).

My issue is I like contest mode. It’s exciting in a way to see the best teams try to make it, even if they don’t stream. The problem comes down to, can the average team actually do this? Now most of the time the answer is yes, however how much time does it take them? The second thing is, I know some people like to go in blind, which I respect, so I question the difficulty there too.
-
Contest isn’t for the average team to complete. Contest is suppose to be difficult
-
Cool this isn’t about contest
-
I’m speaking generally here. I know contest is for elite teams. My comment, can the average team do this, is for other none contest modes. Speak about more so normal raids there. Like Salvation. There however I can defend the difficulty as it’s supposed to be the Big Bad. For whatever reason people think the og post has to do with memorization or contest. I never said that.
-
Exactly! My friends and I love going in blind to the dungeons and try to figure them out, but I watched the first encounter and don't even know how to explain it to people that haven't seen it, let alone finding the entrance through the waterfall, lol. I like dungeons that are entertaining and require mechanics that take more than one person. The problem is Bungie is trying to make dungeons and raids harder so you can't solo them, but why not introduce a mechanic where you have to stand on a plate in order to input a symbol somewhere else, rather than just try to make it so tedious and annoying that it becomes almost impossible solo?
-
Hmm. Well I think for one they want to get away from the plates. Which I agree with. Now, I think the average team can do this dungeon. Now the Raid Salvation’s Edge, that takes a solid team even as far as raids go. Which I don’t mind being what it is. My issue never has been about difficulty while three man. It’s more about, how many times do we have to do the same thing. Especially when not facing a boss. Which damage phases are understandable. Hidden entrances, puzzles doing the mid run through parts I’m all for. Personally we need to get away from the plate. It works to have plates as a mechanic to give players a rest for mental fatigue, not saying throw them totally out, but for a main mechanic it can get tiring.
-
I agree as well, I was just using it as an example. Bungie wants to get away from people soloing dungeons, but they should just add 3-part mechanics that have to be done at the same time or within a few seconds in order to activate. So it actually takes coordination and communication between 3 people. Otherwise what's the point of having a 3-person raid if you don't require 3 people to progress a mechanic. I think of the game it takes 2, where you can't physically progress without the other players doing something at the same time. Nowadays, dungeons and raids are usually ran by 1 or 2 people carrying the rest of the team, which defeats the whole point.

Exactly this !! Bungie Devs: "dang it salatgreepo beat this in 6 hours, all the viewers stopped watching after only 6 hours, we need more, more symbols, more mechanics, more challenges, think how many people would WATCH the game IF this took 34 hours..." yes, WATCH. The problems is less and less are PLAYING !! ah well, RIP Bungie

Normal mode exists after the contest is complete.

Very true. I guess the player base will come back after contest mode. I'm speaking of a more general issue rather than a specific mode. I don't even bother with contest mode anymore.
