When a campaign is the only thing to really look forward to it tends to drive people away, and that is what is happening to Destiny. The game is time-consuming, but the problem is that a lot of it is just wasted time.
I don't mind a challenge but there needs to be an incentive to go with a challenge and for me, this developer has failed to do that with most of this game. Most of what has been talked about on is the exotic class items, and if that is the only incentive for most at this point, yes this developer has failed as a developer.
The difficulty went up, but the reward system stayed the same and a lot of people are tired of being flooded with garbage every single day.
Destiny has one of the worst loot systems in gaming that is a huge turn-off and part of the problem with it was the community. A lot of you wanted to keep all your old loot from years ago, you threatened this developer to leave if they removed them, and the streamers jumped on the bandwagon. So now we are stuck with a loot system that is filled with garbage because you guys gave them no reason to really need to design actual new loot.
Pat yourselves on the back because 99.99% of the loot in this game is filled with years of old useless loot that has flooded the entire loot system in this game. This means the difficulty increase is not worth the time or day just to get flooded with garbage.

That useless loot is def part of the problem. Think about if you are a new player and want to go do a raid.. You need some older weapons to get you through as they are the meta for the raid. That means significant time doing things you may not even want to to get the roll you might want for that raid. If you have played from the beginning, its great because you likely have these things. I recently found out.. having my account hacked and my stuff deleted that the new weapons arn't really it for raids so you have to back track and play so much of the old stuff to get back to end game ready. That is not a good thing for casuals who don't want to put that amount of time into the game.. Bungie didn't impliment the sunsetting well. It was jarring and made no sense. As with many things, bungie has good ideas that they find the worst way of putting into the game and then wonder why we scratch our heads and revolt.
