For me the down fall of this game started with sunsetting, play bungie’s way, and constant nerfs to fun builds, and the introduction of the DCV.
Sunsetting basically showed they have no respect for players time investment. Then they reverse the sunsetting years after they advised us we could safely delete them. I don’t care about how everything has been power crept.
Removing content, cycling it back to us, and focusing more so on the seasonal content rather than core stuff is what slowly killed the game for me. I don’t care what the reasons are, removing content we paid for is a middle finger to the customer.
Play bungie’s way has been a constant pain point for me and lots of other players. Constant nerfs done to fun builds gives less options for build crafting and worse part is we have no say in anything because it’s bungie’s game not ours at the end of the day.

They weren’t really that good… and even the good ones are a slog I only complete for other characters. If there was bright dust campaign skip… I’d use it every time personally. Even if brought back today, I sincerely doubt any veteran would divert their attention from grinding loot to watch Gaul s.i.m.p for an orb.
