Unlikely, if what they said is to be believed a lot of those layoffs were targeted at ppl working on other nascent projects so they could cut the costs out of those, and focus on marathon, a game to our knowledge they likely see as too far along to drop, and destiny their consistent cash cow. Even taking the job cuts, which does suck, into account they are still a fairly large studio, and we might actually see more of a focus on destiny content and quality if they aren't dividing their attention on so many side projects. This is assuming that we believe what they said and take it in an optimistic light. I don't see them feasibly being able to untangle themselves from the destiny ip.

I don’t think they even CAN untangle themselves from the Destiny IP. If Pete is to be believed, they tried to have three successful IPs including Destiny. But they failed in all fronts and there is honestly nothing left to make in my opinion. They sold off the Halo franchise to Microsoft, Matter was canned in 2020, and no one that I know of will even TRY Marathon sometime in 2025-2026. Even if it was successful, I wish them good luck as they are trying to compete against Tarkov and any other established extraction shooter in the market. Once most people figure out what the game entailed, it was pretty much over for it. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Edit: sorry it's kinda long. [quote]I don’t think they even CAN untangle themselves from the Destiny IP. If Pete is to be believed, they tried to have three successful IPs including Destiny. They want to have more IPs to diversify their income. So they can't drop destiny because they don't really have any other revenue source to rely on. Microsoft would have just kept them making halo games, as evidenced by 343. I might be wrong though, I didn't really pay attention to video game news back then. That aside, yeah I've also made the point it's a rough genre to break into and a niche one at that. It's kinda good that destiny players generally aren't interested they won't be competing against themselves but they also won't have a playbase invested in its success from the beginning. if does well that might be good because it'll give them more revenue leeway maybe making them both better games because they could work larger scale, or bad because they'll care about destiny less because its revenue will be a smaller amount of their total, as it stands realistically if they care about bungie continuing we've kinda got them by the ****s. That just gets expressed in weird ways because we're such a divided community on the motivation front.
