Theory on Why Some Activities Feel More Repetitive Than Others

I caught myself here a while back thinking of how strikes and seasonal activities feel so nauseatingly repetitive, but then I look at crucible matches and even just Super Smash Bros games and see myself actively enjoying what's essentially even moreso the same thing over and over again. I'd like to suggest the theory that the reason for this is a sort of totality effect. When we load into a strike or a seasonal activity, it almost always tends to have a defined beginning, middle, and end. Each time you play that activity, it's the same sequence of events laid out in the same order every time. There is little to no replayability or anything significant to differentiate runs. You start it up and have to do the entire thing, and then start it up to do the entire thing, and then start it up to do the entire thing, and so on. Meanwhile, crucible has a different flow. The energy a minute or two into a match is nearly identical to the energy a few seconds before a match ends (unless you put too much care about winning). Crucible matches feel more organic and rarely play out the exact same. When the match ends and you start up a new one, it feels less like an end and a new start, but rather just an intermission that you can choose to jump back in or leave. These kind of activities have an organic feel to them, like they are always active and you play for the moment to moment experience rather than the run as a whole. I think this could be something interesting that could be kept in mind if anyone wants to design an activity. What are your thoughts?
Of course I gotta slip in another mention of the Haunted Forest in here. This is another reason I think it's superior to Haunted Lost Sectors. The HF has you going as far as you can with random helpful/harmful modifiers, where the HLS's are just a complete, repetitive package with next to nothing to differentiate or freshen the experience.
