All of this is on the heels of The Final Shape having been extremely successful for sales,
According to who?
supposedly almost breaking the record Lightfall set.
You do realize the lightfall trailer duped us all into signing in and that's why player counts went from 317,000 on Steam charts down to 100,000 in less than a month. Amazing visuals to load into 5-6 training missions. They used the same game model for the Final Shape. 5-6 training missions, and face off against the big bad.

  • I mean if you look at sales it was a huge success. The final shape did well the first episode did not

  • Tell that to the 220 employees let go this morning. If the sales were good or "great" 220 people wouldn't have been fired

  • According to Bungie saying that they had to do this despite the success of TFS and other data that says sales were very good at TFS launch. It's in the post Bungie made today, they said themselves TFS was a success

  • Saw the same thing with forsaken, bungie claimed the sales are good despite Activision saying it doesn't meet sales expectation so what's the chance they're trying to cover up with 220 employees being laid off?

Truth is bungie lie to get out of trouble. They promised Activision they could release a new game every 2 years but knew they could never do that. They clearly used projections to say FS would sell crazy units on the back of wq outselling bl, then lf outselling wq & breaking records, projections would assume to be even higher, hence the warning by Sony to bungie about low pre orders. I'd guess FS sold reasonably well but not as high as the previous 2 dlcs, this missed the clearly exaggerated projections, allowing Sony to take over.

Success could also just mean well reviewed or well received. Doesn't have to mean that the expansion was lucrative or even met all financial goals.

  • A success , maybe, but going on player numbers it was a good bit lower sales than WQ & LF & the player dropoff has been very very rapid, so no it's not a success unless they just went for the week 1 cashgrab
