"Traveler's"...
"light".
Or was it paracausal?
Would have destroyed our ghosts, "all the king's horses, all the king's men"...
but for Cayde. Without Cayde, we're mortal again. Interesting? I think so.
What IF the Witness didn't invade the Pale Heart, maybe they were invited in?
Because, MAYBE, we didn't have the potential energy required to kill the Witness OUTSIDE of the Traveler?
Bait the Witness in, happened during the interlude campaign "Lightfall"... the Witness grabbed our Ghost, and we were losing that campaign but for one moment NEVER explained...
How our ghost was able to patch into the communications between the Witness and Calus.
That moment led to our interaction with the Witness where they grabbed our Ghost. After they did, they entered the Traveler.
If the Witness wouldn't have stalled, been baited... it wins.
We entered the Traveler, malevolent forces in opposition to us entered alongside us... and in that conflict gained the energy needed to defeat the Witness and was 'supposed' to remove us... as a threat.
But for the Echo protocol's and Cayde's intervention.
We're still going to lose, there's no avoiding the collapse, but we're losing the right way now.

I'm of the same mind that the Traveler had the plan to let the Witness in to manifest memory of the binding ritual that created it. It wasn't 100% certain it would work but, so far, The Travelers visions seem to accurately show outcomes. Right as it's showing us empowered, notice that's when the Witness gets angry and 4th wall breaks the vision and tightens its grip on the Traveler to silence it. The beam it fired at the Witness? That was straight up telling the Witness "You. Me. Leave them out of this. The path has been set. I now let the darkness in and my light--my Guardian--will follow and reach for me and in my hand will be a sword." Love the lore entry for Ergo Sum man. It goes so hard.

Edited by jhermannITJ: 7/31/2024 5:42:14 AMMy extension of that is the Gardener as both the progenitor & progeny of the Traveler. I don't think Luzaka has met the Gardener in person yet... It's a metamorphic manifestation... personified. Causality... simplified, as you well know, is the Chicken or Egg paradox... which really isn't a true paradox as something evolved into a Chicken in order to lay the egg. Now Paracausality... the meme. This is Bungie's solution for a time loop narrative. The facsimile of the "light"... in what can be an endless looping simulation. We just altered that cycle by killing the Witness. What I'm saying, is my theory... is that in versions where the Witness wins, the Gardener does not exist as a personified entity. And that's what the ICoV Echo Protocols are all about. Osiris... is saying something different than the lore that unlocked today. His analysis in counter to the evidence, Chioma wouldn't have waited until the love of her life was fully lost and corrupted. She knew what was happening, she was tortured by it... but it was required per the prophecies of Subject 12, the confirmations via Praeydth and the Exo experiments. I don't believe the Traveler is evil... it's tech, a tool... a siphon. It's the "Egg" in our paracausal universe... in this simulation called the "Endless Night". And we ARE the "Eggmen"... the "Mothmen"... the "Oysters". My bold predictions:
Osana -> Sathona -> Savathun -> Gardener Mara Sov = Dul Incaru (always was)
Those hyper specific revelations are probably wrong. But I still think you and I are on to something 😇👍💠. I appreciate the considerate discourse.
