Given how rushed and incomplete the Final Shape is for a conclusion of the Dark and Light?
Got a feeling they just wanted to close it out and move on to whatever “original” ideas they have for future stories.
Which given what originality they’ve shown is going to be sociopolitical garbage.
Which given what originality they’ve shown is going to be sociopolitical garbage
QFT The line "how do you tell someone they are who they've always felt themselves to be" had to be one of the least subtle things they've done in this vein, and considering Nimbus is in the game, that's saying something.

Honestly I don’t think the fault is with Final Shape there. Trying to seek this as a ten year overarching story was. At a stretch you could argue this story has been ongoing since Shadowkeep, but only really took shape in Witch Queen. Final Shape is a better ending that the ‘saga’ deserved. Hopefully we can have an episode where the NARRATIVE takes centre stage and not the characters again. I love a good haunted, but if the story and world isn’t developing significantly we’re going to be left with no foundation to work with.

absolutely truth in that phrase.

Issue with haunted was that it was very predictable and had no variety between weeks Crow Fights Nightmare, then looses. Crow Fight Nightmare then wins Zavala Fights Nightmares and looses Zavala Fights then Wins Caital Fights, Looses Caital fights again and wins. Had they diversified the order they did things, like crow loosing, and thus, needing to wait till he saw another person win to regain the motivation to fight would have been a cool story beat. Or how about Caital continually fighting over and over again, despite loosing over and over again till she has to learn to take a softer approach. The structure of Haunted actively deterred from the Narrative.
-
The structure has nothing to do with it, but it is a negative. Outside of the characters, what advances to the story are made? We’re already allied with Caiatl, Calus is already aligned with the Witness, the Leviathan isn’t relevant after Haunted… there are no advancements.
Honestly I don’t think the fault is with Final Shape there. Trying to seek this as a ten year overarching story was.
Ohhh, Shocky! How are these 2 things NOT hand in hand? Bungo were the ones who decided to pass this all of this hogwash off as some ten-year arc, even if doing that just makes them look stupid when you look at the whole picture! If the Final Shame we got is a direct result of that, how could it NOT also have its share of the blame? HAHAH!
At a stretch you could argue this story has been ongoing since Shadowkeep, but only really took shape in Witch Queen. Final Shape is a better ending that the ‘saga’ deserved.
Nooooope! Final Shame was merely a crap ending to an already-crappy story! Given that this is Bungo and how the 'saga' already was, I don't think they could have ended it any other way!
Hopefully we can have an episode where the NARRATIVE takes centre stage and not the characters again.
HAHAHAHAH! Have you seen and HEARD the people at Bungo? They think 'characters' and 'narrative' are the same thing! And even if the narrative took center-stage again, what even makes you think they would do any good anyway? HAH!
but if the story and world isn’t developing significantly we’re going to be left with no foundation to work with.
And that's exactly why if the narrative was front and center, it wouldn't matter a tiny bit! Why is that? Well, the keyword is right there: 'foundation'! You see, when the foundation they already have is comparable in function and practice to a smoldering ash heap, the next saga they cook up is gonna be MORE hilarious and a bigger lesson in botched storytelling than the last! And now that they can't sell anyone on this ten-year ordeal anymore, they're bound to trip up even more! Ohhhhh, I can't wait!

Final Shape only addressed a user of Darkness, then we Nacre loretab with the Winnower saying it’s looking for more followers? The “ending” was merely kicking the van down the road. This is all due to Bungie wanting to make it open ended. That’s why the conclusion falls flat. Because we are immediately told we are still under threat, the conflict isn’t over despite Bungie claiming it’s concluded. You have to really not care about the story or not know enough to not see it. And if that’s the effort they put in any sort of narrative conclusion? I don’t see how the future narrative will be any better.

The Winnower has 110% been reintroduced to keep the Hive relevant. Because without the Witness any not aligned with Savathûn are going to flounder. How do we take them seriously as a threat when we killed the being responsible for their creation in the first place? You introduce the entity that birthed their whole belief system. The Winnower is going to play a large part in the events of Heresy as the eldritch force described in the road ahead, I just know it. I’d be fine with the ‘the conflict continues’ ending if it was better displayed within the campaign itself. It feels cheap to have a single off handed line of raid dialogue reveal the Winnower sculpted the Witness and a single lore tab showing it was watching the events of the campaign. I would’ve much more enjoyed the Winnower actually being involved within the story as it speaks to us, assisting us in stopping the Witness. I think it would’ve also helped sell the breakdown of faith in the Traveler, since the Winnower is openly communicating and helping us while the Gardener is silent.
-
I get your idea but that lack of threat doesn’t end with the Hive. Nothing is going to top the Witness level threat, so relying on the Winnower is a stop gap at best. The Winnower needs to be involved and explored, their teasing with it makes me wonder though. Just how long is it going to take for them to figure out what to do with it and the Traveler. Especially when they were so hesitant to even mention the Traveler acting during the campaign. Almost like they were spinning plates.
I don’t see how the future narrative will be any better.
HAHAH! That's the beauty of it all, MC! It won't be any better! It never will! Ever! But that doesn't mean there's no silver linings! We get to watch Bungo keep laughably screwing up! Herm continuing to make himself a complete fool! And now, this hole of denial Shocky keeps digging for himself may even get bigger! There's oodles of smiles ahead, MC! There's no need to worry! HAHAHAH!
-
HAHAH! Ohhh well said, MC! I can’t wait to see how much more they’ll flop and flounder on the story now that they can’t fall back on this 10-year meander they’ve been on!
