I'm sure this topic has come up numerous times, and it seems Bungie doesn't care about SteamOS. The reality is that more and more players are using portable devices. The SteamDeck is one of the best-selling consoles, to the extent that Microsoft is considering building a portable Xbox. Personally, I travel a lot, and the SteamDeck is the only console I have. Because of this, I'm forced to play other similar games that work on the Deck. I know that installing Windows as a dual boot on the SteamDeck is possible, but I'm not willing to do it because it's too technical for me. Please consider updating your anti-cheat software to be compatible with modern systems in 2024. Thx :D
They're not going to do this for the same reason Google Stadia was a failure. That's a whole platform supported for what will amount to maybe a few hundred players, a few thousand tops. D2 players on Steamdeck aren't that common, and SteamOS is a whole different operating system. Why would a game company develop a nearly decade old game for a handheld game console a statistically small number of people would use to play the game? Also, after all the work they put into stadia, Google killed it and Bungie ultimately did all of that for nearly nothing in return. They struggle to keep up with the 3 platforms they support already. Adding a 4th again would kill the game.

You have no idea how SteamOS works along with Proton, do you? Basically emulation, no new OS support needed. The only problem with D2 is that the anti-cheat software runs at kernel level, which is not emulated. But given the recent worldwide outrage due to CrowdStrike's update on the Windows kernel, Microsoft is already considering banning kernel-level execution for third-party software.

Just because my verbiage was technically inaccurate doesn't mean that the amount of work isn't the same. And Windows can't close down their kernel because of an agreement they have with the EU in 2009 stating that security developers would get the same kernel access that Microsoft itself had. That's not going away, that's a multi billion dollar industry backed by legal precedent. Get out of here lol.
