Loot isn't the difference between good players and novice players. A good player can go in with all blues and still be a good player. A novice/bad player can hack the game for an all exotic loadout and still be stuck at his level.

  • Exactly: an experienced player can make blue weapons work, but a new player can't. Right now, getting good loot is very difficult for new players, so when they go up against someone who has the gear advantage they are going to feel discouraged.

  • Pretty much everybody's can get legendaries and exotics simply by playing the game. I got 4 exotic engrams just playing PvP and completing challenges last night alone, not to mention various Crucible engrams on the way.

  • But not all legendaries and exotics are created equally. This is exactly why I keep bringing up the Igneous Hammer, because it has incredible aim assist that makes even the worst of players a threat. However, in order to unlock that, new players have to power level all the way to the powerful cap, get 50 kills in competitive, endure Trials until they get the Igneous Hammer to drop, and then they also have to get a good roll. Only after all this can they enjoy a battle on equal footing with veterans who have optimized their processes and probably already have their god roll. Same applies for exotics: Conditional Finality is far better than Duality etc.

  • See this video by CammyCakes, he goes in depth into just how strong the aim assist is compared to other weapons like Round Robin. It is objectively and measurably better than any other 120 hand cannon in the entire game.

I was saying no to the idea of it making a bad player somehow dangerous.

  • What??? Look again, the video shows exactly how much more forgiving the gun is. It's easy to use, it feels nice, and it performs well too, the triad of good gunplay that I think everyone should be able to enjoy. If your point is that we shouldn't make bad players more threatening, then I remind you that all the loot new players have access to is also available for veterans, like the new light kits and quests from Ikora. My suggestion wouldn't differ in implementation, everyone should be able to get the free handout loot.

You're still talking about the gun. I'm sure the gun is fine, I don't need to see video of the gun. Show video of novice or bad player, somebody who never touches PvP, being a monster with that gun. That's the thing you gotta show. Not sure all that other stuff you're on about, I'm responding to that one claim.

  • That would be me, the .8 KD, but I can't be bothered to get it again. Here is some footage of someone else though, despite the fact that they aren't mapping people constantly (because they hold a shotgun out so often and position themselves really badly when taking duels), when they do get kills the opponent can't even do anything about it - the gun practically aims itself. I might spend some more time looking for a better example or recording my own when I feel like going through Trials again.

  • Saying you're a .8 despite having the gun runs counter to your point.

  • My bad, I should have made it clear that I no longer have the gun. I had it and used it (almost exclusively) for about a month cumulatively. I have dismantled all the rolls that I had a while back. Because this debate seems to be devolving, I will reiterate my point: I think new players should have access to the same loadouts as veterans so that they can experience 1) an even playing field and 2) the best the game has to offer.

  • An even playing field is impossible and what Destiny does best is all free.

  • I'm tired of talking with you, all you're doing is saying no to anything anyone says without even bothering to back up your side. You're the literal definition of a contrarian.
