Wasnt riven slave to mara? Didnt mara lock riven? And in the end it was mara who commanded guardians to kill Riven.
Q: Why mara acts innocent and only falsely accuse Riven? Mara even lie about riven.
Q: Why mara lie about what Riven said? Why mara falsely accuse Riven? (about deal, Riven never lied)
Q: Why mara does nothing, everything is done by guardian, but mara acts like she done everything (season story wise)?
Finaly, why is riven nice to mara? she should hate mara, even while i get that riven is neutral being, but mara has done so many bad things to her.

Riven was kept within the confines of the dreaming city but was no slave, mote of a partnership. The distrust comes from rivens' pervious wish that plunged the dreaming city into an endless cycle of death and rebirth, corrupting her people and, more importantly, corrupting uldren. A wish occurs from the potential chaos that it creates, and the ahamkara scrape some off the top to consume for energy. They are at no liberty to tell you the twists and turns that they put on the wish to feed and if riven told Mara outright, there would be no chaos and the wish would be selfless. This killing riven in the process because she is made of the chaotic energy the wish requires to proceed. Riven only told the truth when the potential chaos of the wish was fulfilled and as a courtesy, knowing it that she will cease to exist regardless. Better safe than sorry to have her somehow survive and question riven like mara did. We are guests to her throne, we do the work but Mara guides us like a hot knife though butter, the only times this wasn't true are far and between. Makes sense for what we are as lightbearers of the last city.

Another way of putting the conflict between the dragons and humans turns around the fact that if you grant a person their desire, they lose their desire— and their desire is a large part of what makes them who they are. It’s a paradox that when undone, undoes the person who makes the wish along with it. This is why it’s so destructive and why humanity historically hated the Ahamkara. We don’t understand this about ourselves, the dragons do and exploit it because they must to survive, and we hate them for it even though it’s our own problem in the end. It’s a very sharp narrative construction. Somebody at Bungie read and understood some psychoanalysis.

2 RepliesAs unbearable as this is to read, here’s two quick notes. Riven was responsible for the deaths of several of Mara’s Techeuns and she granted the wish that had locked the Dreaming City in an endless three week cycle, where any Awoken caught in it are forced to repeatedly fight and die only to live again and consciously repeat the same actions, regardless of their desire not to. A lie of omission is still a lie. Riven admits in that very reveal she kept that information to herself for strategic purposes.
