Do you have a good reason why Checkmate should be tied to SBMM?
-
Because the rules promote snowballing. If you're going to give the team that's ahead more resources and make it easier for them to stay ahead then the skill levels shouldn't be massively different to start.
-
Do you think this games version of SBMM, combined with it's lobby balance....issues...would even mitigate that? Like at all?
-
Would make it *way* better. In Trials, I have never gone flawless solo-queing or since they re-worked Trials matchmaking two years ago, really. And I am constantly playing gilded flawless players... At least when they introduced loose SBMM into other playlists the matches got far more fun and I was able to actually play to have an impact on the outcome. When SBMM is in place my matches have been far, far better. Now, I'm not at the high end of the skill bell curve, so maybe that experience is very different... But, SBMM means I have a fighting chance far more often because I'm not being fed to high KD players I have no chance of beating. I understand a game mode that rewards you for winning when the match is close and you needed to take a risk or work together to win. It promotes going faster and pushing yourself. That design is turned on its head when the three 2.5+ KD players on the other team get special ammo every other round because they are stomping the 1.0 KD players on my team (including me).

When they introduced SBMM, the matches got more fun....for some. MUCH less so for others. I am not going to try and denegrate or dismiss your experience. Totally fine. And I do agree with your first point that Checkmate can suffer from snowballing. I don't think that's a good reason to force SBMM on it all the time, but I at least can agree that's a thing. I personally don't think SBMM has a place in any non-competitive or non-endgame modes, checkmate or not. Now comp, and possibly Trials, whole different discussion. Comp should be rank based, which essentially makes it skill based. Trials is an interesting one. I can see the argument for SBMM there. I would just say if they do put SBMM into Trials, they need to drop the mercies entirely.

Becuse people can't use primary.

You misspelled Bow.
-
I mean I agree with that statement, but not that it should mean required SBMM lol.
-
Nope. It's because the mode promoter snowballing. Simple.
