You are 100% right. If they did it like that it would definitely be better but also a much more massive undertaking. I'm pretty sure even Bungie has said they're tired of champions it's just the thing where people act like they can't believe they exist. They are almost an artifact of a different time at this point but replacing them in the way suggest has got to be a time consuming thing.

  • I dunno about that. They’re pretty formidable in master lost sectors when you get a -blam!- barrier servitor shielding an overload. Have had huge problems with them at times with the ammo economy

I have no doubt time is an issue here. But I also have no doubt champions were the "quick solution" pushed by upper management. And lately we've been made aware about how bad upper management is.

Upper management isn't bad they just don't really seem to run their company by belittling people in to doing what they need to do. They're basically communicating their experience in a way that is basically saying "we've seen this before and this is what's going to happen if you don't do this." But even with that it's like they don't want to sound arrogant and mean so they end up giving everyone as many chances as possible to fire themselves. Bungie is one of the most you fire yourself companies I have ever seen. "I've been waiting on this guy to fire himself and it's almost like he expects me to do it" is not anywhere the worst people you can work for.

I dunno man. There was some Bungie dev comments over the past few months like "We had to redo an entire storyboard from scratch with only weeks instead of months." "We've been arguing for many things players have asked for and we kept getting turned down." Things like that. I have a feeling Bubgie devs are being bottlenecked. Which makes sense. You see this super cookie cutter seasonal model we get? Who do you think likes that more? Creative devs or businessmen mangers? Bit of a tangent, but I think we can agree that the enemies need an overhaul. The bar is too low.

  • I've seen those but when it's hundreds of people it just seems like they have to make the choice about who to listen too and sometimes it goes great and sometimes it goes less great. Me babbling all over here is not to say some unfortunate things didn't happen. I just don't see how the best outcome for the game is to make that stuff the focus instead of just letting it inform future decisions. I'm not going to defend the seasonal model because it for a lot of people represents a kind of cheapening that a lot of enthusiasts just don't care for. One thing I keep wanting to mention this was a really good season with really cool activities relative to other seasons and relative to other live games. The other thing is it's content for solo players. The unfortunate thing is that it's still a lot of work and that takes away from the foundational stuff sometimes. I don't know what the answer is for that but it needs to include something for everyone that's currently playing at a minimum. It's also another one of those things where people will say you have no idea what Bungie likes to do but I know people there at least have content in the game they prefer to play themselves. I will say the way the enemies and what they do works could use a massive refresh. I've seen suggestions for new voice lines behaviors and enemy type changes on planets and even though I'm not that much of a PvE person, playing against tormentors and lucent hive was definitely a welcome change of pace to champions. I'm also no dev but I do know reusable enemies like these take forever to make in games. So they've started doing it in WQ and hopefully they'll continue to expand that and rachet up the attention being paid to what are really important things you're suggesting.

Oh yeah. It's a hige overhaul with a lot of different hands involved. No doubt there's some pushing for and against it. As a player, I would really welcome an enemy overhaul for sure.

That's definitely something that the game needs to feel new. Good thing they started with understanding how a change could go with Neomuna. Now they know a whole bunch of things they're not going to do.

Fingers crossed they took notes. Turns out we don't want bullet sponges. Who would've guessed?

  • The bullet sponge thing is one of those things that a lot of people said prior to the difficulty changes that was what they hoped they didn't mean. I've played every dungeon and every season after they come out people in my small clan are running them enough that I will just get asked out of nowhere to do them. I was gone from playing for a while but any other dungeon I could have expected to just be asked for the extra body they needed. I think I got asked once but one of the reasons that I probably didn't get asked more is that I'm the guy that plays PvE and people "a pvp with no real dps load out, and who sucks at dps and can't aim the dps super stream to avoid all these extra phases." I have definitely heard people say "a pvp player that plays that much and no dps load out?" And they don't say anything else but you know what they're thinking.

Yeah. Bullet sponges just suck. They're health gates that are usually so far beyond what is necessary it just becomes unfun.

The health gates sometimes make me feel like I have more opportunities to screw the dps up for some reason. It's like the people you play with are looking for that bar to go a certain distance and the leftover part that it doesn't is definitely your fault.

Yes, it is. And people don't like that at all.

I guess it would happen even without the gates but if the health was going to be that much more then maybe they should not have the gates. I haven't played it yet and probably will in the next month hopefully but there were a lot of complaints even from hardcore players about that and I think maybe even a dev or two speaking as players.

Ghost of the Deep? Yeah the health pools are insane. No gates, but by far the most health of any dungeon bosses with the greatest add density too. It's pretty crazy.
