BREAKING: VIA Bloomberg: Destiny's THE FINAL SHAPE delayed until June 2024?

Jason Schreier @jasonschreier NEW: Bungie laid off an undisclosed number of staff today, part of ongoing job cuts across PlayStation. The company recently delayed the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion The Final Shape to June 2024 and the new game Marathon to 2025, sources tell Bloomberg Article: By Jason Schreier - October 30, 2023 at 1:39 PM EDT Bungie, the Sony-owned game studio behind Destiny 2, let go an undisclosed number of staffers, according to people with knowledge of the matter. In an email to employees seen by Bloomberg, Bungie Chief Executive Officer Pete Parsons said staffers would be “hearing some news today” and that there would be a team meeting later in the day to “discuss today’s events.” The company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Bungie recently delayed an upcoming Destiny 2 expansion, The Final Shape, until June from February, pushing it out of Sony Group Corp.’s current fiscal year, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. Bungie’s next game, Marathon, slipped to 2025. Sony, which purchased Bungie in early 2022 for $3.6 billion, has been cutting staff across its PlayStation division this year, in part due to delays. The unit lost several key producers this year, and PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said last month he will retire in March. Thousands of video-game workers have been let go in 2023 so far as companies look to cut costs, even after a year full of hits. Last month, Epic Games cut around 900 staff.

More to this than meets the eye. I run a small business employing seven people, I expanded but had to get rid of two people to keep us afloat in the summer. If I didn't then the other five would have lost their jobs. The two I let go were the least productive, predictably they trotted the out the "corporate greed" line as they slinked off to Reddit to whine about how it's all so unfair while overlooking the fact the other five were covering their end of the business. My five employee's are the heart of my business, but I didn't hesitate to get rid of the dead weight when I had to. Bungie has been needing a swift foot to the rear end for a while now. Lightfall was an utter car crash and it was hard to believe it came from the same studio that made Witch Queen. Difficulty changes no one asked for bar streamers being introduced on a whim resulting in the unbalanced rubbish we see now. PVP neglected and a mess. Has anyone stopped to consider that maybe the reason the Game Director is being so approachable is because their bosses at Sony told them to ?? .. Bungie are part of the machine now. Maybe the fact they seemingly cant launch an expansion on time, look at past releases for proof, has caught them up. Bungie said they would be extending downtime to make updates easier to implement. All that has happened is there is now more downtime, and the game still doesn't run properly after it. Just like when it only took them two hours instead of four. They even managed to annoy an entire community with their woke "Latin X" nonsense. The game is a tired grindy unbalanced mess right now with the most updated part of it the cash shop. And the folks who paid billions for it have the right to step in. They own Bungie. Is it a coincidence that Final Shape is delayed at the same time Bungie is getting a clearout ?? .. I think not. This game has all the ingredients to be a classic yet Bungie ignore the playerbase who don't stream it for a living and nickle and dime everyone at every turn. Sony remember stated they bought Bungie because they look to them as an example of how to run live servce games. Maybe they took a look under the hood and were shocked at what they saw. There is no way they are going to waste 3.6 billion. Some big changes are coming at Bungie. As for the likes of Hippy whining on Twitter about being let go. Boo hoo. Your company were making emblems supporting the organisation whose supporters were burning down inner cities, people's homes and businesses three years ago. Didn't see any sympathy for those folks coming from any Bungie employees back then. Get on with it. I lost my career as a pilot recently, walked in for my medical fit and healthy and was diagnosed with a heart condition that stopped my career in it's tracks. So be it. On to the next thing. I made what was a small business a bigger one and, after a few bumps in the road, things are looking good. This clearout might just be what Destiny needs.
