Is Destiny 1 playable without PlayStation Plus?

I used to play Destiny 2 before it required all expansions and now I want to move to the first Destiny but I have no interest in getting PlayStation Plus.

I can't believe you still need a ps+ subscription to do anything other than patrol. I asked this question 2 years ago. The game has been out for 9 YEARS
