Why has there been no push to allow Destiny 2 on steamdeck?

I just want destiny 2 on the steam deck man. I want to lay in bed and try to solo a dungeon for hours. After over a year with the steam deck being out, I'm genuinely surprised that there has been zero update on allowing Linux/Steam OS within the anti-cheat. Maybe I'm naive but how much easier would it be to cheat on Linux compared Windows? and the now defunct Google Stadia port was, from my understanding, a native version for Linux why not use that? I'm no game developer I just like video games so I'm sure there's more to it but I enjoy this game too much to not say something. (And no. I don't want to play the game on an awfully optimized version of windows on the machine. Nor do I want to stream it via Xbox game streaming or whatever other service offers that.)

  • People have asked in the past and Bungie has responded in their TWaB newsletters. They will not support the steamdeck.... you can still play D2 on the Steamdeck BUT you have to do it through Windows not Linux. The reasons are simple..... D2 on PC was created ONLY for Windows OS by Vicarious Visions. To run it on another OS you need to use a emulator like Wine to force the game to work. All support for D2 on PC was created for Windows. That means that the anti-cheat and anti-ddoss systems will not work... you would be giving cheaters free run to access the game. The only line of defense would be Battleye and as that is a common anti-cheat system a high priority for cheat programs to be designed to bypass. Maybe if there was more of a demand Bungie may have considered creating a Linux version of the game or buying the Stadia version off them and then creating the support network needed... but at this time it would not be worth Bungie's time and money.

  • Probably due to the latency would be my guess… I know it was a long time ago, but you could remote play with the psvita… but it was not worth it. I do not know which games you can play or how taxing they are…. But whatever bungies plans are, they have to always account for PvP and or co-op in their game via said devices.
