• Indeed….I was in a server without about 15 people doing the same emote around Zavala for a while. Once someone would leave, another person would just take their place.

    • Like a few here, I heard of the news off CNN while in transit from work. The shock was... well... like getting hit by a titan's Seismic Strike. I was blindsided, pure and simple. Being largely a fantasy and sci-fi fan I missed most of Lance's other dramatic work. I may be confusing Lance's voice for another, yet I do seem to remember his announcer voice-over work at NBC trailer spots for Grimm and The Blacklist. The lesson I'm feeling we should take away is this: don't take The Light for granted. Not now. Not ever. Keep it, give it, shed it... and don't ever betray a single mote of it. For if The Light ever passes, and you have kept the faith, you can stay at peace with an old friend and yourself in straight account.

    • Not only was he our light, and amazing Titan vanguard in Destiny..he was an amazing voice actor, and actor period. And I think he knew how much he meant to a lot of us in the Destiny community. I've been playing Destiny since D1 around the time TTK came out. And it was actually Zavala that made me wanna make an Awoken character. So, if it hadn't been for Lances personality he gave to his Awoken Titan..I don't think I would have ever made an Awoken character. Visiting The Tower, or watching old cutscenes with him will definitely hit differently from now on. But, I think, he would want everyone to continue enjoying things he worked in despite him no longer being around. He may be gone, but he'll always be our Zavala. So, I'm really hoping Bungie memorializes him in the future as he deserves. Lance was our Zavala. I don't think anyone could replace him in that regard. No matter what other talented actor/or VA they got to do his lines...it just wouldn't feel the same.

    • you know, I thought I'd be over it, but like little things get to me. Like watching fun videos, reading memes in Zavala style, doing Eric Andrea show, or watching a bunch of screen caps of players doing emotes beside the character models. He really did loved engaging fans, and it made everyone happy. I mean sure, I'm all "Eyes up guardians." But seeing him say "-blam!- CLAPPED!" He had amazing comedic timing, it feels like we lost a REAL ONE! I think what I'm trying to say, forget the Wire, I love his humor more.

    • My condolences to Lance’s family. Lance was outstanding in so many acting and voice acting roles, with Destiny 1 and 2 being some of the greatest I’ve gotten to experience. I could always pick him out in anything with his incredible voice. Best of all, he loved our community and was a really great person in every way. This game, no matter what direction it takes, may never be the same without our iconic space dad to talk us through mission briefings and reflect on what makes us Guardians. But I’m glad so many have taken the time to celebrate his time with us by emoting and equipping emblems. You will be missed, Commander Lance. See you starside, someday.

      •
I can’t believe it
From Destiny Day 1, he had the most recognisable voice to me and whenever I would hear his voice I knew it was him. I remember recognising him in John Wick just by his voice and shouting “Zavala!” My family didn’t know what I was on about but to me it was amazing. Rest peacefully Mr Reddick, enjoy the spoils of the after life and in time you’ll be reunited with your family once again.

      • Bold statement incoming, but Lance Reddick was as iconic to Commander Zavala and Destiny as James Earl Jones was to Darth Vader and Star Wars, Steve Downes and Master Chief in Halo. I don’t want him replaced, it’s not gonna be the same.

I can do a pretty solid impersonation of him. (Edit). Sorry this came out so wrong, I can impersonate Zavala, I jokingly talk like him all the time. I

Literally everyone in the tower I was in kneeled in front of him. Was a sad moment but we acknowledged our commander. I wish I can post a pic He’s with Safi and Cayde now. RIP

I stumbled across the lore for Heart of Inmost Light Heart of inmost light He was a man. He'd been another man. Another man before that. And another man before that. And another. Another. And yet another. How many lives now? How many deaths? He came to believe that each time his Ghost brought him back, he came back a new man. But he was a new man who carried with him the burden of all the lives before him. One after another after another, and each and every one of them weighed upon his shoulders in a way only Atlas could comprehend. But he was a Titan. Muscle and might and metal a mountain of it, they said. There was no burden he could not bear. That's what they said. He nodded and waved away the adulations. He went to his quarters each night, in the half tower he had commissioned, and he laid in bed, his feet incapable of stillness as a thousand million insects scurried their way up and down the sinews of his muscles, instigating perpetual and maddening motions that all his muscle and might couldn't stop. An insurmountable restlessness that prevented what little respite he could find in his nightmare-fueled sleep. Yet he was a champion. A leader. The bright shining example of all that was good and enduring. There was a City to build. A species to protect. Extinction to prevent. Invaders to repel. Wars to fight. Lives to live. Deaths to die. What was it he said once to one of the newly risen? The Light shines brightest in those it consumes? Oh, how he felt consumed. He stood up from his bed. Crossed to the window that framed the entity that had cursed him. Though it chose not to speak to him, he knew what it wanted. And the only way to end its curse was to give it what it wanted to destroy that which would see it destroyed. Maybe then he could sleep. ‘Yet he was a champion. A leader. The bright shining example of all that was good and enduring.’ Really stuck with me. RIP Lance thank you for bringing Zavala to life the way you did.

              • Serious bummer. I haven't played in 8 months because of a brutal move and house renovations. I read of his passing in the obituary section of a news paper this morning, and I was hoping it wasn't thee Lance Reddick. I guess it's true. RIP Commander.

For us, the storm has passed. The war is over. And let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark, and did not return. For their decision required courage beyond measure. Sacrifice, an unshakeable conviction that their fight… our fight… was elsewhere. As we start to rebuild, this hillside will remain a barren memorial to heroes fallen. They ennobled us all, and they shall not be forgotten… salute…
