To keep this game alive, we need dedicated servers & an engine overhaul

never gonna happen... unfortunately
-
Bungie doesn't have faith in Destiny, otherwise we'd have a better engine & dedicated servers.
-
it would require too much time and effort at this point. they would pretty much have to re-code the whole game, and probably stop supporting older gen consoles.
-
thats not true, it would be LESS taxing on consoles/PC... instead of having to jump through multiple nodes, it would just communicate directly with the server. Anyone who says this doesn't know how networking work.
it would require too much time and effort at this point. they would pretty much have to re-code the whole game, and probably stop supporting older gen consoles.
People just don't understand what's involved. You're 100% correct.
-
He's 100% incorrect.
He's 100% incorrect.
So how easy do you think it's going yo be to rewrite the netcode underpinning the engine? Then there's the engine itself, and then there's the infrastructure. So data centre presence and connectivity. It's not practicable. Look that word up.

i've worked in the development field for years, and there is another poster in this thread who has been a software developer of 30 years. it would not take much effort to re-write the netcode, or implement dedicated servers as they would be through a third party (AWS, google, cloudflare, etc.) the problem is bungie is too cheap to care about its players, and give them dedicated servers. Luke smith was quoted in an interview saying it wasn't worth the investment.

If you think it's easy to just rewrite the netcode you clearly don't understand. https://www.pcgamer.com/the-strange-science-of-destiny-2s-uniquely-complicated-netcode/ As I have said many times its not practicable, which you repeated at the end of your post. So you don't know what practicable means. To be clear it's not worth the investment and time to do this for a game in its final stages. They pulled devs off destiny to work on the new ip. So why would they spend time completely rewriting the netcode and tweak the engine then spin up various environments and connectivity to support this when they have a new ip on the go.
